Swamps of Scorn

In the aftermath of Dreadnought's impact, not all survivors succumbed to the demonic influences. Some sought refuge in the damp and warm swamps located in the southern regions of Talaan. Unlike those who rebelled, these individuals harbored no desire for defiance. Instead, they chose seclusion, hoping to escape the gaze of Galen, who still bore a grudge against all who crossed his path.

As the surviving soldiers ventured into the swamps after the war, Galen's malevolent eyes continued to watch over them. His scorn and thirst for vengeance manifested in the form of undead that roamed the land, eager to sink their teeth into any unfortunate souls they encountered. Talaan, recognizing the plight of these survivors, extended a helping hand. For many years, the empire provided rations, supplies, soldiers, and other necessities to aid the people. Some were even brought to Talaan for refuge.

However, Galen empowered himself further, unleashing destruction upon Talaan. Rebuilding itself with new hands, those driven by parasitic greed, the empire turned its back on the swamp-dwelling survivors. Instead of compassion, the people of the swamps faced persecution, blamed for Galen's wrath. The hands that once offered assistance now rejected them, casting them aside.

Fuelled by hatred and resentment, the survivors became what the empire perceived them to be – symbols of lawlessness, hate, scorn, and violence. In this chaotic landscape, small pockets of city-states emerged, each governed differently. These lawless territories engaged in various illegal activities to sustain themselves, marking a stark departure from the unity Talaan once attempted to foster. Amid this turmoil, Gothane, a semi-capital, stood as a testament to the fractured and hostile state of the land.
