Duelling
Duelling is an incredibly popular sport in Holzreich, practiced most commonly by the nation's nobility, gentry, scholars and Reichguard members.
History
The first recorded Duel occured not long after the defeat of the Elves in the Holzen Region duringĀ The Human Rebellion. A dispute between two rival warriors was settled via a contest of arms. While originally duels were usually fought with longswords, the rapier was widely adopted as the dueler's weapon of choice following its invention in 74IE.
Execution
To challenge someone to a duel, the challenger should remove their glove or gauntlet and throw it at the feet of their intended opponent. If the challenged party accepts the request, they are entitled to designate the time and location of the duel.
A duel is conducted between two participants, each armed with a rapier. Duels are usually won by drawing first blood, or upon the yield of your opponent. However, on occassion, duels are fought to the death. This practice is legal under Holzen law as long as the duel is observed and officiated by a uniformed Reichguard Commissioned Officer.
