The Gray-Sea trading company was made by Darduine Graybeard, who used to be a ruler of one of the Allied nations, throu political manipulation and bribery, he got a law passed that the seas, while in the teritory of the allience, do not count so for the question of laws.
The legestation was passed, as the 124. Legestation of the free seas.
Doing so he put all his resorcess into making a floating wooden island raft. And begun sailing around the Aliance and bying up illegal goods and low cost resorcess, that he then sold at 10x the price.
By this time the Allied council had seen the use of this Legislation tried to cancle it, however many lords had a personal intrest in the illegally sold goods for their own use. which ment that the legislation. 124 was kept.
As time passed the raft expanded, many choosing to live on it. The lord, who had left his domain unatended, gave the roll down to his son, who currently rules. For his other sons and daughters, he wanted the best, so he struck bargens with the rulers of the alliance placing his children and grandchildren in high places of importance, with a qualifyed secratery, to handle all the manual stuff, so that his childrenn could live the life of lugsuary.
Now The Gray-Sea Trading company has started drifting around the continent comming to places not into the alliance and become so profitable that now they have an army that would be considered 2x as strong as any allied army (not considering their forces as unified). As for their economic standing, they have been slowly over tine, milking the Alliance out of gold.
