The Mirror Knight
On the surface of Orliüm, there is a lone man who many say is exceedingly brave and equally foolish. No one knows his name, but he is considered a living legend and hero among the people of the surface. Rather than being on the defensive against the sunbeasts, the Mirror Knight seeks them out and slays them. He gets his name for his armor and weapons. While most of it would be useless in a battle against mortal weaponry, much of his equipment is made of reinforced mirrored glass.
Being made of pure sunlight energy, the powerful claws of a sunbeast are “reflected” to a certain extent on impact with the armor or shield, and the sword similarly reflects light as it passes through the creature, “cutting” it. Severing the magic that holds the beast together, his sword can destroy the creatures if enough vital areas are hit. Since sunbeasts do deliver physical force when they attack, the knight is not invincible; sunbeasts come in a wide variety of forms, and are still quite deadly. His most defining feature is the helmet, which presents a rounded mirror that completely covers his face. The image of a sword, point down, is embedded as stained glass directly into the center with the curved cross guard stretching over where the eyes should be. A similar stained glass emblem of a knight battling a strange creature is also attached to the upper left of his breastplate. The knight seeks out the sunbeasts for both his own sake as well as others’. Originally, he was an apprentice to a Brightcaster, and took the Luminance Trials. He failed, but managed to survive as one of the Blinded. While he could no longer directly control the sun's power, he retained the ability to "see" by registering different intensities of light in a more ambient way, similar to how a bat uses echolocation. He eventually took on the mantle of the Mirror Knight to hunt the beasts that nearly destroyed him. What began as a drive for revenge transformed into a task of atonement for being involved with the sun’s magic, and soon he became known as a lone protector of those who would fall pray to the sunbeasts. He has never been sure what would happen if those he tries to protect were to find out that he once aspired to be a Brightcaster, and only hopes that he can do what he can now.
