Adolphine Calendar
Current Year: 175 CG
History
During much of the early history of Ormurgard, no one cared to keep track of the months or years. The god Matr was responsible for the calendar. Matr was haphazard with this time. Seasons would go with whatever Matr was feeling at the time. At one point the seasons went from Summer to Spring to Fall back to Summer again. Eventually a monastic cleric of Yapo named Adolphus decided enough was enough. For months Adolphus secluded himself on a distant mountaintop and did not leave until he created the calendar seen here. Pleased with his work, Yapo wholeheartedly accepted the calendar. Yapo confronted Matr and took the duties of controlling the calendar from him. In order to stop his incessant whining, Yapo agreed that Matr could play with the moon and create a day of darkness at the end of every two months.
Observance
This is the calendar of the common man. Simple to use and with tangible effects of change.
Eras
The start of the current era was declared by High Priest Olof Andersen after the God Celestine gifted the king of Makland a map of certain deep ocean currents, as well as the presence of unexplored land across the ocean. It is said that this gift was in return for sparing the life of Alvar Hyltirsson, a romance author popular with noblewomen, after he inadvertently struck an overzealous suitor. Thusly the current era is named Celestine's Gift and is abbreviated as CG. The era before the current was named Striith's Discordance. This period was interspersed with constant wars between rival countries and internal civil wars. That era is abbreviated as SD. Most common people do not use any of the eras beyond Sthriith's Discordance. Use of these era names are confined to the works of intelligentsia.Years
