History

At first, the Foundation was met with widespread acclaim. After all, the New World was an enigma, and no one knew what it contained, so a map of it would be useful.   As time went on, however, popular opinion of the Foundation decreased slowly but steadily. With only 5 ships, the Foundation was strained to the breaking point to map everything it could. Eventually, the decision was made to stop spreading their resources so thin, and congregate all the ships together in a large fleet that could map an area fairly quickly. This resulted in the 12th Expeditionary Fleet, which set sail five years ago to the south. This was seen as a revitalization of the exploratory spirit that had captured the imagination of many, and the Foundation quickly became beloved again, albeit temporarily.

12th Expeditionary Fleet

The goal of the 12 Expeditionary Fleet was simple: map the areas to the south of Havenport. The fleet of consisted of 4 ships, each crewed by 50 able-bodied sailors, with enough supplies to last two years. They set sail in 20 C.G.

Five years passed, with no word from the fleet. Until one of the ships - the Bountiful - drifted into Havenport's waters, uncrewed. Despite its abandonment, the ship was in remarkably good shape. Most of the crew's personal effects remained on board, the anchors were weighed and the sails were furled. Even with the help of the influx of adventurers that arrived that same year, the best efforts of the Foundation were not able to determine what happened to the ship, or the rest of the fleet. Further investigation of the Reckless Archipelago only uncovered one additional ship, lost with all hands.

Disbandment

The Fall of the Foundation

By 25 C.G, the Foundation was in dire straits. Although an influx of adventurers that same year helped with some of the Foundation's problems, it simply couldn't make up for the sheer lack of resources the Foundation faced. With the help of the adventurers, the Foundation succeeded in locating one of the lost ships and even in creating an outpost in the Reckless Archipelago, which grew until it reached its state today, as the town of Jettyton. However, the lack of resources meant that the holdings in Havenport could not be maintained, and in 28 C.G, the main headquarters were sold and the Havenport Geographical Foundation was officially removed from the registry.   Though short-lived, the Foundation certainly left a lasting impression in the New World. Its mapping services proved invaluable in creating trade routes and even in the construction of the Lightning Rails a full century later. The outpost houses the most complete collection of maps in the New World, and stands today the center of the thriving town of Jettyton.
