Greetings to those below. I am Death, and I am delighted you will have another chance to call me Azrael! Well done. You didn’t fall for my brother’s trick! I admit, I’m a little impressed. You see, he had disguised himself as me toward the end. Pay close attention to the way he phrased the question. He said he would save you, but he never once clarified what he was saving you from. Then he merely said, “Do you choose me?” while pretending to wear my face and using my voice. Trick or not, had you chosen “yes”, you would have in fact been choosing him.
Do you see what I mean now when I say my brother is deceptive? This is what he does. As a side note, if you had any doubts about me, my brother, or both, I hope I have been vindicated in your eyes at least to some extent. I really was telling you the truth about him.
But, as it stands, rest assured my brother is gone, sulking because he lost. At least for now. I don’t doubt he’ll be back to try again one day, but in my journey into the swamp to rescue you, I made a quick stop by the lake and may have called in . . . shall we say a favor? He wasn’t happy about it, and in fact he rolled his eyes and was rather rude about the whole thing, truth be told. But he’s always been that way. He hasn’t learned the lesson my master has designed for him yet. But he did help in the end, so it seems I owe him a favor in return. We’ll see what he asks me to do if he ever gets around to it.
Who is the “he” I am talking about? Out of respect for him, I won’t reveal that just yet. It’s not time for him to introduce himself. He’s waiting for the bells, you see. But that’s another story. You can trust him is the important thing. Well . . . for the most part. Depending on his mood, it . . . all right, it honestly depends, but he will keep my brother at bay at least for the time being. They hate each other, which was the reason I asked him to help in the first place.
But anyway, I suppose there’s nothing left to do now but continue to ensure my brother stays away for as long as possible. So with that in mind, allow me to educate you on the world properly. Honestly, I should have done so when we first met. Then you might have known the Morsus Swamp was a deathtrap from the beginning. I apologize for my oversight. That’s what we’ll do, then. A guided tour of the island of Rhye, minus the swamp, of course.
Until then, my delightful survivors. I’m so glad I didn’t have to collect you.
