Kalybian

Kalybians, also called steel genasi, are the youngest of Orphan’s bloodlines, one which has emerged with the industrialization of human society. They have an affinity for all technology—the sword and the plow both, machines of war as well as of industry—and as such they are most commonly found in large cities on the bleeding edge of modernity.   Like the technology they echo, there is huge variation among kalybians. Some are orderly and rational; others have minds as keen and wicked as a knife’s edge. Some might have steel teeth, or steel talons, or metal plates and rivets growing out of their skin, while others look indistinguishable from pureblooded humans save perhaps for some small tell.
kalybian traits:
  • Bloodline Magic (2/3). You can take this trait twice; each time you do, you gain access to a new “tier” of spells, as detailed below. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
    1. You know the sword burst cantrip.
    2. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast thunderous smite as a 1st-level spell once per long rest.
  • Harden (3). When you are hit with a nonmagical weapon attack, you can use your reaction to gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage from nonmagical weapons. These damage resistances last until the start of your next turn. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.
  • Natural Armor (2). When you are not wearing armor, your AC is 13 + your Dexterity modifier.
  • Natural Weapon (2). You have a natural weapon (claws, fangs, horns, or the like). Your unarmed strikes deal 1d6 bludgeoning, piercing, or slashing damage, as appropriate to your natural weapon.
  • Steely Gaze (2). Wisdom (Insight) checks made to discern your emotions have disadvantage.
  • Sturdy (2). You have advantage on Strength saving throws.
  • Weapon Whisperer (1). You can spend 1 minute focusing on a weapon with which you are not proficient. At the end of the minute, you gain proficiency with the weapon. This proficiency lasts until you use this trait to gain proficiency with a different weapon.
