Argau - Primer

Argau is situated high in the mountains and valleys in the area of the Veran Mountains known as the Heissermount. It is a loose [confederation](https://www.worldanvil.com/w/orrus-Androkles/a/cantonic-government-in-argau-article) of three different provinces or Cantons. The most powerful Canton is Fribourg to the west followed by the slightly smaller Canton Vaud to the east. Directly between the two situated in the Tschilin Valley is the small Canton Bassel.
One of the main trade routes through the Veran Mountains winds through Serrus cuts right through Argau. This is known as High Pass. This has led to Argau becoming a relatively rich area for its small size. The area has been invaded numerous times by Frisia and the various southern palatinates of Wetterau to gain control of this important trade route, but none have been successful as the Argauns are well suited to fighting in their lands as well as the very defensible location of the Heissermount.
Argau has never been on the offensive of a war herself and continues to stay neutral in any wars over the centuries. The Argauns are still known as great soldiers and they hire their regiments out to other countries and have gained a reputation as solid mercenaries to supplement anyone’s army.
Argau is a small country, so it does not have the broad sweeping counties, and provinces that some of the other larger nations have. It is mainly split up by geographical area. These are the Heissermount area, the Tschilin Valley, and the Veran Highpeaks.
