Foci

Elan can be persuaded to condense into objects, natural or otherwise turning the object into a focus for spells. These foci can be expended to make a spell less taxing than normal to cast. A focus is expended once it is used and may not be used again unless the caster binds more Elan to the object. To make a foci, a caster may take any object (preferably something easy to carry and readily use), and then he or she must succeed in an hour long ritual to bind the Elan.   In addition to foci having "charges" of Elan, foci also have a finite amount of time they will be able to be used. Over time, the Elan slowly exits the item. The more powerful the Theurgist or Adept, the longer lasting foci can become. When the Elan fades from the object or the caster has expended the Elan casting spells, he or she may perform the ritual again and "refocus" the item.
That's the trick with wizards. You have no idea what their focus might be. Could it be the giant oak staff he holds? Maybe his golden necklace? Could be.....but, it could just as well be one of the buttons on his shoe.
