The Withering Void

At the end of the Mightnight War, a massive rift in reality tore its way through what was once Falais. It is a blot of nothingness lingering in southern Serrus. It undulates and moves, but never really grows or shrinks more than a little. Studies to understand its nature have always gone unsuccessful. Any individual that walks past its foggy barrier is never seen or heard from again. Spells cast into it have no effect on it.   Strange manifestations around the Void however are commonplace, if not random. Strange featureless beasts sometimes wander out of the Void and mindlessly meander around devouring anyone foolish enough to approach. Some notable examples of its affect on Serrus are listed below.

Old Falais

Once the capitol of the country of Falais, the city is now stuck in a bizarre state. The Withering Void divides the city into two. The side outside of the void has been long since abandoned save for lunatics. The half within the void is actually clearly visible through the fog, if ever so slightly. On that side, the inhabitants from the moment in time the city was absorbed are frozen in place exactly as they were then. Dogs are frozen walking the streets, street vendors stuck handing a customer their coins, a laborer frozen hauling hay. Like the other parts of the Void, however, individuals that wander in disappear and are never seen again.

The Fear Lands

This open and desolate plain is littered with the ruins of the towns and villages of Falais. When the Void opened, towns combusted entirely, dissapeared from this plane, all the inhabitants dropped dead at the same time, or a great many other grisly demises. Now, only Void beasts wander this area and only the Fear Land Forts built on the western edge built by Kingsland keep the beasts culled and out of civilized lands. Luckily, none of the beasts seem to be able to traverse water, so the natural boundary of the Endland Ocean assists with their containment.

The Sunken County of Fallmouth

Fallmouth was once a county of Falais. When the Void opened the entire land area sank into the ocean. 1,600 square miles of Serrus, in under an hour, dissapeared under the Sea of Terrantio.

The Every Burning Forest

The woods on the eastern edge of the Withering Void smolder and smoke constantly. Nothing seems to put out the embers and flare ups of fire are frequent. No one can get close enough to study the phenomenon as the heat is unbearable, even to those with protective magics.

The Broken Wood

These woods are in a constant state of destruction and growth. New trees suddenly spring up full grown over night. Trees spontaneously shatter into splinters as if a cannonball has hit them or fall over as the stump uproots from the ground. Occasionally, a tree will be flung vertically or horizontally with no discernible pattern.
What is the Withering Void? Now that's a question that eludes even the smartest men of today and in history. I would say what we know about it is quicker to talk about than what we don't know about it. If you're going to go see it for yourself, I would be careful not to walk into it.
