Dragonborn

Dragonborn look very much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form, though they lack wings. The first dragonborn had scales of vibrant hues matching the colors of their dragon kin, but generations of interbreeding have created a more uniform appearance. Their small, fine scales are usually brass or bronze in color, sometimes ranging to scarlet, rust, gold, or copper-green. They are tall and strongly built, often standing close to 6½ feet tall and weighing 300 pounds or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talonlike claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand.   The blood of a particular type of dragon runs very strong through some dragonborn clans. These dragonborn often boast scales that more closely match those of their dragon ancestor—bright red, green, blue, white, lustrous black, or gleaming metallic gold, silver, brass, copper, or bronze.   Dragonborn hold many very nonhuman traditions. Their family ties are very loose and at times nonexistent. Marriage is a foriegn and unappealing concept. Dragonborn get together purely to breed and reproduce. Eggs are not raised by their parents but are raised by particularly fertile Dragonborn females called Broodmothers. Dragonborn Hatchlings consider members of their Clutch (eggs that hatched around the same time) to be more family than their birth parents and they often stick close with them for their entire lives. That is not always the case however. Many Dragonborn, particularly those living amung humans, do create lifelong partnerships and do raise nuclear families. When female Dragonborn interbreeds with a male human, the child is always a Dragonborn and shares their mothers coloration. Male Dragonborn cannot breed with human females, as they must be born in eggs.   Young dragonborn grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. They live to be around 80.   Dragonborn are one of the first humanoid races ever created, during the late stages of the Age of the Primordials and the early stages of the Age of Dragons. It is said that they were created by Bahamut and Tiamat, the God and Goddess of the dragons by magically melding draconic traits into Eladrin. They were created to fight in the war between Chromatic Dragonborn (Created by the CE Dragon Goddess, Tiamat) and Metallic Dragonborn (created by the LG dragon god, Bahamut). In those early days, Dragonborn would march into battle alongside their dragon masters. The full scale wars lasted for thousands of years, eventually the Population of Dragons dwindled so low that their Dragonborn soldiers were left leaderless. Due to their inbred stubborness and staunch belief systems, they continued to fight their Dragon masters wars.   Native to Therin and the neighboring continents of Najradayea and Schanabe. Before the arrival of humans on Therin, Metallic Dragonborn and Chromatic Dragonborn were still very much at war, but at a fraction of the fierocity during the Age of Dragons. They were more akin to the ocassional skirmish. Additionally they had become fragmented and spread out over the continents. In and around Therin they Settled along the Shale Cliffs and the Dhonfarum Range (Red, Gold and Copper), Brokridge/The Elesian Isles (Bronze), The Dividing Lands (Green), mid and upper Najradayea (Blue and Brass), Viltmire (Black), The Qilmani Wilds and the Abyss (Silver and White).   When Humans arrived on their first exploratory missions to Therin, the Dragonborn were the first intelligent race they encountered. The humans noticed the Dragonborn's capacity for war quickly ingratiated themselves and gifted metallic and chromatic Dragonborn alike, great gifts and boons. Strangers turned to friends turned to allies. Through this allegiance, Chromats and Metalics learned to tolerate each other. Later on, Dragonborn were the greatest allies of the humans in the war against the Elves.   Today Dragonborn are accepted anywhere in the Empire with open arms, though they still prefer their more rugged terrains. The largest population of dragonborn of all colors are found in the Qilmani Wilds, which is governed by a noble house of Dragonborn names the Qelrakas.
