Gnomes

A gnome’s energy and enthusiasm for living shines through every inch of his or her tiny body. Gnomes average slightly over 3 feet tall and weigh 40 to 45 pounds. Their tan or brown faces are usually adorned with broad smiles (beneath their prodigious noses), and their bright eyes shine with excitement. Their fair hair can naturally be wild colors and have a tendency to stick out in every direction, as if expressing the gnome’s insatiable interest in everything around.   A gnome’s personality is writ large in his or her appearance. A male gnome’s beard, in contrast to his wild hair, is kept carefully trimmed but often styled into curious forks or neat points. A gnome’s clothing, though usually made in modest earth tones, is elaborately decorated with embroidery, embossing, or gleaming jewels.

Forest Gnomes

Forest Gnomes have a natural knack for illusion and inherent quickness and stealth. In the worlds of D&D, forest gnomes are rare and secretive. They gather in hidden communities in thick forests, using illusions and trickery to conceal themselves from threats or to mask their escape should they be detected. Forest gnomes tend to be friendly with other good-spirited woodland folk, and they regard elves and good fey as their most important allies. These gnomes also befriend small forest animals and rely on them for information about threats that might prowl their lands.

Rock Gnomes

As a rock gnome, you have a natural inventiveness and hardiness beyond that of other gnomes. As Forest gnomes are with Elves, Rock gnomes consider the Dwarfs to be close allies and friends. Most gnome people come across are rock Gnomes because they prefer to inhabit cities and towns. They do still have a few towns of their own mostly located in the Marbled hills of central Therin. Their towns are a marvel to behold; Like forest gnomes they like living slightly under the surface but they are burrows only in name. Where forest gnome homes have a halfling village like feel but with more nature incorporated, Rock gnomes "burrows" are more like underground cellars with stone walls with gems or metallic trinkets adorning every surface and hung from the ceiling. Rock gnome villages are the closest thing in my world to steampunk. The largest of the Rock gnome villages is Goggleborough.

Autognomes

Autognomes have only come about in the last 5 years or so. All Autognomes are created by a gnome named Spiphina Wecklenockle. She invented them and keeps the Autognomes recipe a tight secret. She will sell Autognomes to other creators but none have been able to give life to their recreations of her designs. Autognomes internal mechanics are a considerable leap in technology from the earlier Warforged, but they have yet reached the level of their reliability. Autognomes are usually used as assistants by certain tradesmen,m but they are cetainly a rare sight outside of GoggleBorough and the Marbled Hills.

Rock Gnomes/Svirfneblin

Forest gnomes and rock gnomes are the gnomes most commonly encountered in the lands of the surface world. There is another subrace of gnomes rarely seen by any surface-dweller: deep gnomes, also known as svirfneblin. Guarded, and suspicious of outsiders, svirfneblin are cunning and taciturn, but can be just as kind-hearted, loyal, and compassionate as their surface cousins. They are close friends of Dwarves. They Hate Drow and Kobolds but most of all Duergar. Deep gnomes are a favorite slave race of the Duergar. Deep gnomes also have a knack for farming rare cave mushrooms and they have close trade relations with Myconid colonies.
