Kobolds
Kobolds were created by the Worldshaper, the true God of Dragons, father of Tiamat and Bahamut, The NineFolds Dragon, Io. They were Io's first (some say failed) attempt at creating life, and the first of the Dragonkin. After true Dragons were created however, they were quickly enslaved and made to act as the dragons own personal treasure miners and collectors. During the Dragon wars, they mined to supply the dragons Dragonborn Legions with armor and weapons, despite their apparent weasly and pathetic nature, they hold a great aptitude for mining and smithing. In the current day, Kobolds are equal part thieving pests to Dwarves, equal parts helping hand in sniffing out minable ore, and smithing assistants.
The majority of Kobolds today live in sprawling handcarved cave systems, constantly needing to expand to keep up with their insane breeding rates. A pregnant female would lay her egg within two weeks. About one in ten pregnancies led to two eggs. An egg needed incubation for about two months, but the newly hatched kobold could walk in just hours. Kobold young matured quickly, having reached young adulthood in six years. They often laid eggs in a common nest, with specialized foster parents watching over the eggs and wyrmlings.
Many Kobolds still revere Dragons and offer tribute if one lives nearby; a habit that has been deeply ingrained in them. Dragons enjoy having them around to be worshiped by them and fetch them treasure.
Kobolds can occasionally be seen living amung humans exceling in a wide array of trades. They also have been found to be the fastest learners of any other race. A kobold can go from completely illiterate with so knowledge of how to speak common to reading advanced books, and holding their own in discussions with scholars in less than a year. Despite their obvious skill and capacity for intellect, their weasly, groveling nature and short lifespans cause other races to see them as weak, dumb lizards, keeping them around purely for entertainment, much in the same way Dragons always have.
