Warforged

Warforged are robotic humanoids made of metal armor plates, fibers, and other mechanical parts. They possess a core that grants them life and acts as the warforged heart and brain. Their faces are metallic and can express little to no emotion.   The first Warforged were created just over 100 years ago. The militia contacted the still young Artificers guild and funded the research and development of lifeless war machines during the early years of conflict with the Church of Heironeous around 490 OE. The details of how the guild created these machines is a closely guarded secret. But they were made to be fast to build, disposable, and to do as they were told.   In the year and a half or so they were involved in the siege of fort Greiicon they did as they were designed to do; mindlessly following orders and killing when told. Many today still remember stories told to them by their parents or grandparents describing squads of Warforged storming through villages massacring indiscriminately and burning everything in their way. They were used as shock troops and in operations the militia knew would result in huge casualties. Countless Warforged littered the fields near Fort Greiicon, even towering so high as to create walls which soldiers would hide behind. Even today, walking the mists round Silem you may stumble upon piles of metallic faceplates, hands, etc.   After the war, the militia kept the warforged as property and loaned out squads of them to private armies or mercenary companies, but maintained ownership. During the war, Warforged had nothing resembling emotion. Though in the years after the war, they would slowly begin to act human. They developed their own personalities, voiced personal opinions, denied orders, even left their assigned units to strike out on their own.   11 years after the conclusion of the seige of Fort Greiicon, 98% of all Warforged across Therin shut down all at once. This was followed by the militias adamant search and reclamation of all Warforged husks, maintaining their stance on their ownership of them. Any Warforged that remained active would be killed if found and so went into hiding. One notable exception was made for a wrforged named Luther Fymel. He is a member of a well known group of hero's called the 'Company of 13.' he rose to fame with the group and so the Militia sold ownership of him to the Church of Heironeous for which he is a paladin. He has spent much of his life fighting for his people freedom, but the militia remains unswayed. Reclaimed Warforged were stored in massive hanger bays inside Plummet Peak Stronghold.   Many accused the Militia of being the cause of the Warforged deactivation, but they adamantly denied it. They also denied that the Warforged had truly developed personalities. They claim that they simply possessed a bug that caused them to learn to mimic human behavior and mannerisms.   For years the Warforged lay inactive. A large event took place just a few weeks ago. The Empire declared a new war on the Xethihad after a suspected terrorist attack broke their treaty. The day after the declaration, The Warforged were revived after nearly 90 years asleep. This includes the few that had remained inactive but undiscovered by the militia all this time. The newly revived Warforged had forgotten their memories but retained the personalities they had developed. The thousands of Warforged in Plummet Peak Stronghold were immediately sent over-seas with the bulk of the militia to fight the war. The only Warforged allowed get out of the draft and stay in Therin besides Luther Fymel, are those that are injured or otherwise unable to fight. Any able-bodied Warforged that is found is immediately captured and drafted.
