City of Assanway
Assanwey is the capital city of the Ysterneth - the Sanwen Kingdom of Ystern.
Legend tells that the original "Assanwey" was a young princess, daughter of the Queen who founded the city as the capital. The city is located on a main river, the Yst, and hundreds of canals have been opened up from it to serve as a main form of transport, both for people and goods. Rare spiced teas are served in gilded pots against a backdrop of covered gardens as rich men and women chat idly about political intrigue and affairs of state. They are, perhaps accompanied by a guitar tuned in a scale suitable for that time of day. A singer hums softly, and is watched from the corner of their eye - he may or may not have been hired to poison one of them, after all. And, behind the music, the cool trickle of a fountain and the ever-present of insects chirping in the heat.
From across the garden, debt-slaves or servants may be gossiping themselves, or trying to out-vie the other with a spot of espionage, to improve their standing and earn a little coin on the side.
Yysterneth is a technically a meritocracy, led by an elected (and non-hereditary) ruler - the Dux, whose term lasts 5 years. This Dux is elected by a council of representatives, who themselves were elected by their constituancies - the seven areas of the city, one of which is the university district. Various political parties and lobby groups have sprung up in the city as well behind each. The council of representatives votes on important issues regarding the city, with the Dux enjoying a double vote.

Demographics
Although the majority of the inhabitants are Sanwen, there is a large minority of Saned in the city and a very few Wenver.
