Character Creation, Levelling Up, Rerolling
Character Creation
- At first character creation, individual players may choose whichever method they prefer for rolling their attributes (ex: standard array, 4d6 and drop 1, or point buy) but must let the DM know which they choose. If the player goes for a method based in rolling and rolls dramatically awfully, they may request from the DM to reroll particularly catastrophic results or to switch to point buy.
- Sorcerers can choose to use Constitution for their spellcasting, as their arcana comes through a test of withstanding the raw power they channel with their bodies.
- Characters may take one Feat for free at character creation, at DM's discretion (as some Feats are notoriously more overpowered than others).
- Characters may take bonuses based on their Intelligence modifier; see Intelligence Options below. Players should make note somewhere on their sheet where this bonus comes from (such as source: Int modifier under the Skills section).
- Characters will begin the campaign at Level 2. This gives players a little opportunity to try out their character in the world before they take a subclass at Level 3. Characters beginning after the start of the campaign will be the same level as the existing party, with the same opportunity for a free reroll within 2 sessions if they do not like their build.
- Characters will begin with a set amount of gold (determined at character creation and adapted from vanilla 5e tables) that is then spent on their starting equipment loadout. Characters may have item exceptions (things they did not spend gold on in this step of character creation) based on backstory, to be discussed with DM (ex: family heirlooms). Given that these rolls are extremely random and can create unfair wealth disparity, DM will work with players to find numbers that make sense to both character story and game.
Rerolls
- Upon levelup, a player can reroll any 1's on Hit Dice
- Players have 2 sessions after creating a character to do a full revamp of the build. If a person becomes unsatisfied with their character down the line, reach out to the DM; it's more important that you're having fun than you sticking to 1 build.
Feats
Players may take 1 feat for free at character creation, and can choose at level ups where a character receives an ability score improvement (levels 4, 8, 12, 16, 19) to take the 2 ability points or an additional feat instead. For more Feat options, see Background Flavor.Intelligence Options
In order to incentivize more Intelligence beyond spellcasting modifiers, Intelligence modifiers (minimum of 0) can be used to do some of the following below. This is true at character creation in addition to if a character gains a point to their modifier through leveling up.- Add a class or background skill proficiency (2 points)
- Double proficiency for a skill you are proficient in (3 points)
- Language proficiency (1 point)
- Tool proficiency (1 point)
- Double proficiency for a tool you are proficient in (2 points)
- Single weapon proficiency (1 point)
