Downtime Actions

by Jacob Jordaens
Occasionally, the party will see a break in between panic, saving the world, and super heroic quests. During that time, they will be able to describe what they do with their time, including (but not limited to) :
  • Shopping for bargains, or a specific item
  • Training (including expertise)
  • Research
  • Making connections (allies or enemies to be used by the DM)
  • Socializing or developing character goals
  • Reducing exhaustion/wounds etc.
  • Starting longer-term projects (side hustles, inventions etc.)
Depending on what the character wants to do, the DM will work with them to establish what it would take to accomplish this. In some cases, it may take longer than one stretch of downtime to create (similar to how some Settlement projects take a while)...not every craft is done in one binge session and some wounds take a while to heal.   Some ways an action might resolve include:
  • A luck check (a flat d20 roll where the DM tells you whether you want high or low)
  • A skill check, or several, sometimes with the ability to get help from a teammate
  • A roleplay session
  • Additional work in the world at large, such as looking for information or resources on your next mission

In short...don't worry if you're not sure the mechanical way to resolve something you want to try. Pitch it to the DM and we'll find a way to make it happen. Think of this page as a notice that we will do downtime things outside of missions and combat, and we will be flexible in figuring it out together.
