Field Expertise
This is a list of optional expertise a character may have to customize their background in a way beyond the basic backgrounds and feats.
- When starting a new character, you may choose a number of expertise from this section equal to your proficiency. You may choose only one expertise per skill.
- These should be based in narrative fit, not minmaxing.
- Additional expertise must be earned through training/studying (see below).
- You may propose unique field expertise not present in this section that fits your character background and story, at DM discretion.
- At DM discretion, you may take one expertise as a weakness (gaining disadvantage in it) in order to gain a free expertise (likely in a related area).
- Each day of downtime where 4 or more hours are spent training, make a roll using the main skill the expertise is based on to gain training points based on the chart below.
- A person with the expertise may spend the same amount of time training you to grant you advantage on this roll.
- Once you have acquired enough points, you are now proficient in that field expertise.
- At base, a new expertise requires 200 training points if you are not proficient in the main skill or 100 if you are.
