The Magistrate's Hegemony
The Magistrates Hegemony was an organization of Nobility that served as the ultimate legislative body for the country of Otmorea. During the Litia dynasty, the Magistrates consolidated enough power to become the supreme authority in the land, practically superseding the King.
Structure
The Magistrates are a group of forty-nine noblemen from various provinces. The magistrates are responsible for their own members and elect their own leader to serve as High Magistrate.
The High Magistrate presides over meetings and votes to break ties in voting. In the unlikely event the King passes without an heir, the High Magistrate assumes the duties of the Governor of Prosperity and will lead the house in the selection of a new monarch.
Culture
The Hegemony was composed of the elite of all Otmorean society, and thus their meetings and accommodations were only the finest in the land. The House of Magisters rivaled the Royal Palace in terms of beauty and luxury.
Public Agenda
The Hegemony was founded with the principles of dividing the King's authority so that no single man may ever become a tyrannical leader. They derive their mandate from an excerpt of the Principles of Holden from the Gardener's Text
Where leadership is absent, all people fall. But in the guidance of many counselors, there is rest and security.
- Principles 11:14
Assets
The Hegemony was the supreme authority in the land and thus had abundant resources. They relied on the Otmorean military to enact their laws across the land and were also backed by the support of the Church of Abareus, granting them divine authority.
History
Willem the Cruel and his successor, Willem the Bloody were two Litia kings that forcibly enacted cruel and unjust laws throughout the land. In their reign, millions perished in labor camps building monuments to them as they saw themselves to be gods.
Defiantly, Willem the Bloody's son teenage son, Lyle, led the remnants of the Abareden Inquisition against his father and grandfather, and after a long conflict, the old Litia kings were put to the sword and their idols destroyed.
Knowing the history of his family and under conviction from excerpts of the text he had read, Lyle enacted several laws that divided his power between the Church and an organization of noblemen that he called magisters. The Magistrate's Hegemony retained this supreme authority for generations.
For all people, in all times.
