Viceroy Governor

The Viceroy Governors were men selected by the King of Otmorea to serve as rulers of the various Provinces that made up the Kingdom.

Qualifications

A Viceroy Governor must be a human of some noble standing. They are directly appointed by the King and share his authority over their respective province.

Appointment

The King selects a nobleman and appoints them for life. This appointment remains even after a new King takes the throne.

Duties

A Viceroy Governor is responsible for the general peacekeeping and well-being of the citizenry. Each Governor is also responsible for the passing and upkeep of laws in their province. It is actually the sacred duty of the Governors and the Magistrates to divide the King's authority enough to where tyranny is impossible. 
The governors have a high standing in the nobility and are all required to swear an oath to the Kingdom and their province. In the event that the King passes without an heir, the Governor of the Capital Province of Prosperity is to assume temporary leadership as the Lord Regent. Though, this has not happened since the time of Gelfrey Litia.

Benefits

Viceroy Governors traditionally live in the lap of luxury and as the appointment is lifelong, this tends to create a generational wealth for their family. They are also protected by the Magistrate's Hegemony, meaning the King himself cannot accuse them of wrongdoing outside of official legal procedure.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

The grounds for removal are extreme, provided they do not incite rebellion against another province. Most governors are not concerned with the prospect of removal. The citizenry is traditionally very loyal to their governor, and the few times a King has attempted to remove a corrupt governor from office, it has resulted in bloodshed, thus it would take a very bold monarch to pick a fight with one of his governors.
