Warforged

A species of sentient machines that had been forged for ancient wars.  They can essentially live forever, and can have weapons and armor grafted directly onto them.
As Khorvaire grew more wary of the more magically inclined races, they were largely wiped out or forced into hiding.  Fork and Bulgey have a former traveling companion that was a warforged.
