Vost

Vost is an island to the east of the Vandrai coast. The name is derived from old Altarian for "west".

Rescue Post A-005

Rescue Post A-005 is the most isolated rescue posts operated by Vandria. It counts two modified powersteamers, the VM Skua and the VM Jaeger. Additionaly, the outpost can deploy a heavy turbine airship for large evacuations or long term search and rescue missions. The resue post is considered international territory, as such non-Vadrian individuals are allowed free access. to all public areas

Ulnfjord Military Base

The Ulnfjord Military Base is designated as a radio observatory and weather observation outpost. Due to the permanent deployment of its base members, the base has its own functional town, including lodging for visiting family members. The base has three docks, that see near daily traffic and three heavy turbine airships that are operational at all times. The military base is only accessible for approved military personnel or visitors carrying a defence ministry clearance pas.
An official Vadrian presence can be traced back to abot 451, but effective militarization occured during the Great War.

Incident XB-358

The VM Jaeger is the first armored and lightly armed powersteamer to sail under the Vadrian rescue initiative. This was decided after the XB-358 incident, where the VM Fulmar was attacked and subsequently went under and drowned its crew.
According to declassified documents the VM Fulmar send out a distress call that their bow had been destroyed by an unidentified object. The last message received from the onboard com-officer was: "the faces scream". 3 weeks later the wreck was identified, dredged up and hauled back to Vost for further investigation. The hull had been found to have been penetrated three times, by an unknown object 20 cm wide. However the engine had not been damaged, none of the pumps had been activated and it was presumed that most of the damage could have been fixed. No crew member was recovered, even though it had been expected to at least find the members of the engine room.
The incident was classified as a hostile encounter of unknown origin. In accordance with the Vadrian navy regulation, standard procedures were changed and all vehicle configurations were reviewed. It was decided to armour the hull of all new powersteamers and every long range rescue mission had to be accompanied by a airship at medium range distance.

Demographics

Vost is largely inhabited by Vandrian military personnel and their families, with a small rescue mission located next to base.

Both the military base and the rescue outpost fall under the directive of the Vandrian government.

Rescue Posts A-00X:
* 001 to 003 are responsible for the area of the Vadrian mainland, Merland and the two offshore islands close to Merland.
* 004 operates out of Hiltland, an isle to the south of the Vadrian coast.
* 005 operates out of Vost

All ships operating from any of the rescue posts are traditionally named after sea birds.
