Flaming Fists

The Flaming Fist, sometimes Flaming Fists, was a mercenary company based out of Baldur's Gate on the Sword Coast, where they served as the Lower City's guards.
While their base of operations lies in Baldur's Gate, Flaming Fist operations can be found across Faerun in places such as Tethyr, Anchorhome, and Chult.

Structure

The Flaming Fist operated under a strict military hierarchy.

Marshal (General)
Blaze (Major)
Flame (Lieutenant)
Manip (Sergeant)
Gauntlet (Corporal)
Fist (Private)

In addition, following the commander of the Flaming Fist in the Lower City of Baldur's Gate is given the unique title of Night Commander. This position roughly equated to being above Flame but below Blaze.

History

The Flaming Fist was founded as The Flaming Fist Mercenary Company in in 1332 by Baldur's Gate Grand Duke Eltan. During the early years of the company, their primary motivation rested on gold and exploration, namely finding the resting place of Balduran, the founder of Baldur's Gate.
Over the years, many of the Flaming Fists' commanders served on the Council of Four, including Grand Duke Abdel Adrian and Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard.
By the mid-1400's, the Flaming Fist's duties had been expanded to include the policing of Baldur's Gate's Lower City. While crime reduced as result of this action, it ensured that the Fist's leader held great sway within Baldur's Gate.
During the Great Dragon War, the Flaming Fist, under Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard, fought for the Council of Waterdeep to oppose the Cult of the Dragon.
