Personal history

Essarsin comes from a long line of roguish devils, and the name Essarsin has been passed down the family for generations (specifically, ours is the eighth Essarsin Fellshadow). Despite being upstart halflings, the Fellshadow family has always strove to make a name for itself, and the litany of wanted posters certainly lends credence to the idea that they have. Essarsin was taken from this family at a young age and forced into an elvish boot camp. When he came out, he was a trained gunslinger, told that if he didn’t fight for the elves, his family would pay the price.
Essarsin mostly responded to this threat by turning to his two loves in life: guns and alcohol. I mean, the man’s married, but guns and alcohol are higher on his list of priorities just as a matter of principle. Essarsin has practically perfected the art of drinking, being able to drink rubbing alcohol. Unfortunately, it was while he was perfecting his drinking that he mastered shooting, which has led to Essarsin being entirely incapable of fighting while sober. A few years later, Essarsin decided his family could handle themselves, and he helped with a mutiny. The elves, wholly confident that they could handle a small group of slaves, were thoroughly routed, and cut down to the last man. Essarsin had no intention of taking over the ship, but seeing as how he was the highest ranking member of the crew left alive, all eyes were on him to take command. Then things got strange.
Essarsin started working for the yuan-ti shortly after becoming captain. It was while working for the yuan-ti that, while on a drunken rampage, Essarsin claimed to be the yuan-ti god of murder, Sseth. This went over poorly, and Essarsin was imprisoned. After leveling the temple that he had been held in, Essarsin reinforced his claim, and now there's a religious schism over whether or not he is, in fact, a god.
