The Usurper

The Usurper is a figure veiled in mystery and reviled for actions taken a millenia ago. The skalds of Ostoria blame him for the calamity, and they aren't completely wrong. His ambition caused the cataclysm, but the gifts he provided to his followers may prove to be Ostoria's saving grace.

Mysterious Origins

It is said that the Usurper's entry into the Ordning was unusual. Some say he pulled from the maw of a planet-sized plant monstrosity, others suggest he was a dragon bound in the form of a giant. Others still say that he followed Annam from another plane entirely. Whatever the truth may be is lost to time.

God of the Arcane

Arcane magic was a creation of the Dragons, and was used against Ostoria in the Millennium War, and thus was viewed with suspicion and hate. Only the Usurper sought to teach himself this art, and turn it upon the Dragons. As such, any of Ostoria's wizards can trace their gifts back to the Usurper. After his betrayal, practicing the Arcane became a taboo, and those who continue are viewed with a combination of wonder and caution by those around them.

The Usurpation

Despite being one of Annam's favored "sons", the Usurper had long resented Annam's position of power and priviledge, often challenging his authority and questioning his judgement. Its suggested that he conspired with lesser gods to dethrone Annam, but none would rise to the challenge. So the Usurper alone invited Annam to his keep, where he used powerful magic to imprison the All-Father and took his place, impersonating him for almost a year. Annam was eventually freed, and in his rage and disappointment he rent the Usurper asunder and condemned the plane to oblivion. In the process he obliterated the beautiful floating temple of the Usurper and evoked a blood curse that plagues his progeny to this day. Thus began the cataclysm, and in atonement all records and knowledge of the Usurper, including his name, have been scrubbed from history.

The Restoration

Those few who still worship the Usurper worship his positive attributes as a god of diplomacy, civilization, and magic. These "heretics" seek to reunite the scattered attributes of the Usurper, and recreate him as the god he could have been.
