Eirrat's Pyramid
Eirrat's Pyramid is one of the few such large edifices that has truly been allowed to become a ruin. It still appears on maps as a prominent site for archaeologists and ritualists, but even those folk have not managed to remove the pyramid from the grips of the jungle it is found in.
Architecture
It's a standard step pyramid, standing at about 500 feet tall. It was covered with something that people called limestone, but due to the fact that it has stayed on the pyramid this whole time, either someone has made a career out of maintaining the aesthetic of this abandoned ruin, or else it's not quite limestone.
The interior consists of a veritable labyrinth of passageways and rooms, and since all the maps on the walls have decayed, it's considered extremely hazardous to try and traverse them. If you can reach it, there are still some fascinating discoveries to be made in the laboratory substructures, and the pool at the top of the pyramid is said to have a spectacular view.
History
During the period of time in which -dale went by Oldrendale, the leadership at the time built a large pyramid right on the border of the desert and the jungle that the country is mainly composed of. It was technically meant to be used as a fortress to defend the border of the country, but then -dale overtook a large portion of territory and expanded into the desert and all of a sudden the pyramid was in the middle of the country.
At that point it was primarily used as a kind of vacation area by high ranking officials, and also as a clandestine laboratory by various scientists. Even with the damage that time has done to the structure, you can still see the remains of the luxury swimming pool, as well as the smudged black outlines of a particular experiment gone very wrong. (Nothing in this world has tentacles like that, thank you very much.)
One of these scientists was the controversial Jonathan Eirrat, who used his research to take over the country and throw it into a dark age whereupon he used magic to rebuild it in a style that he favored. He was quickly overthrown, but the name stuck because the pyramid was technically the crux of his empire.
Some years later, around the formation of The Hero's Code and The Overlord's Code, Ankhenstrom (which had newly changed its name from Montrevaro), took offense at the fact that one of their (at the time) ideological opposites had dared to have a pyramid which was something they had newly decided would be their aesthetic. So they attacked, and destroyed it.
Sort of. They pretty well cleared everyone out and made it clear that no one should go back, but they found the structure itself remarkably resistant to damage. By that point, -dale had largely decided that a large fortress in the middle of the country wasn't that useful, so they'd already virtually abandoned it.
