Heebi-neebit

The heebi-neebit population had a humble beginning as an ill-fated and highly aggressive experiment that was meant to make a tiny animal that could infiltrate magical fortresses and cause havoc with their natural tendencies to bite things and the magic imbued in their creation causing interference with any protective spells.   That was how it started. The sorceress conducting the experiment lost control of the animals, and they escaped her tower. This was a cause of some concern to those who knew of the nature of the experiment. The world was saved, however, because the experiment was not quite finished. The sorceress had not yet perfected her creation, and it was not quite the silent stealth machine she needed.   As a result, the heebi-neebits were quite cute and fluffy, if still rather aggressive. The cuteness meant that the local population made efforts to capture and domesticate them, rather than simply eradicate them, and within a few short generations the heebi-neebits were tame enough to be safe as a house pet.   I am told that the name was not the original one chosen by the sorceress, but rather given by a child who had one as a pet.

Care and Keeping

There are very few heebi-neebits to be found in the wild, in part because no one wants them to become more like what the sorceress wanted in the random chance that is nature, and also because they were cute so everyone found them and took them as pets. With so many of them domesticated, there are a number of books about the care and keeping of the heebi-neebits, as well as a plethora of toys and food types and beds and such.    For one attempting purchase, I would suggest buying one of those books.   In brief, it is important to keep the heebi-neebit's fur trimmed. When it grows long it can get quite matted. Teeth brushing is also an important grooming factor for the heebi-neebit.   They are carnivores, and consume the meat of small animals and birds. There are also a number of foods available with the appropriate balance of diet.   Heebi-neebits do not sleep much, so be prepared to deal with random crashes in the middle of the night as they continue to be active. It's also advisable to buy them in pairs, as a lone heebi-neebit will get bored by itself and cause damage to property. Two together will keep each other occupied in play.   Do not expose to large-scale magical sources! This does not end well for the source or the animal.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

The heebi-neebits appear not unlike a very fluffy rabbit, just without the long ears. Their is soft and lustrous and comes in a variety of colors, in most of the rainbow but particularly pale blue. If they remain still, they look to be a lump of fluff.

Additional Information

Domestication

Through careful breeding, the heebi-neebits were bred to be less aggressive, but also to be more snuggly. The ones who learned to bond with the people caring for them were the ones to carry on future generations of the species.   They are still quite forceful in the event of an intruder, however.
