Smokespeech
"Shrangen fru!" (My mother's farts are more lethal than you)There are moments in battle when there is simply not enough time to properly convey all that one wants to say to one's enemy, not enough insults prepared before one attempts to run them through. This is particularly true when they are one's sworn enemy. The advantage of having the same traditional foe, to varying degrees across the years, is that an understanding develops, a shared history that can be taken advantage of. This is the case with Clan Burnwallop and Clan Mistbreath.
"Alcot meg!" (You absolute bitch, in the tradition of Shana Megain)
"Dastard!" (How dare you, my mother is perfect)
Why This Language Exists (A Brief History)
Clan Burnwallop and Clan Mistbreath share more than the typical animosity that ebbs and flows between the clans of Deorma. While most of the clans change who they're angry with depending on circumstances, these two groups have remained constant in their anger at each other. Over the years, they became known for their long diatribes, and for entire wars spent on insults instead of actually fighting because they had so much to say. Since the other clans were starting to get annoyed with this constant delay of battle, the leaders of Burnwallop and Mistbreath came together and decided to create a shorthand, so that they could insult more quickly. They ironed out the basic details of what became Smokespeech in about a week. After that, the main problem was teaching it to all their people. This was where Clan Stormguard was brought into it, as the most proficient magic users of the country. Stormguard mages crafted a spell to imprint Smokespeech into the minds of all members of Burnwallop and Mistbreath, present and future. They also gave the understanding to themselves, probably so that they could laugh at the other clans.Geographical Distribution
Only found in Deorma, and only amongst the mentioned clans.
Vocabulary
The vocabulary was developed at random. There is very little consistency between one word and the next. Each word or pair of words represents an entire insult phrase.
Sentence Structure
Each word is essentially designed to carry an entire sentence's worth of insult, and as such that underlying understanding is usually translated in the common tongue of the world. Instead combining words or phrases, new ones are simply developed with the required meaning.
