TOTTEWIA

How were we supposed to know they picked today to not be psychotic weirdos?   Anonymous hero who took part in the battle whose nickname rhymes with "barmy"
The name is an initialism for "That One Time The Elves Weren't Insane Assailants," and it marks one of the very few conflicts in which they were involved where they were not the aggressors or in some way responsible for deliberately provoking their foes.   In general, they find it to be an embarrassment to themselves as a species.

The Conflict

Prelude

The battle started at an atypical wedding, in that there were no scheduled duels to the death. The hapless human who was about to marry his strangely kind-hearted elvish bride had mentioned this fact to his friends in town.   In the typical manner of young men disappointed that one of their own has undertaken the seemingly ill-fate of marriage, they drank heavily, and then elected to attend the wedding in such fashion.

Deployment

The drunkards arrived, and as is the elvish custom, they were armed upon entering the ceremony. (Because while elves might be universally mad, they acknowledge this fact and usually elect to give others at least a fighting chance.)   The groom's friends saw him being accosted by one of the bride's sisters (he had failed to pin his lapel properly). They drew the wrong (but admittedly logical) conclusion and attacked. The young lady eagerly joined the battle, and it wasn't long before all the assorted company were arrayed.

Battlefield

The battlefield was an ancient temple, filled with many rare and ancient artifacts that have been replaced via time travel several times because of several similar instances.   The real loss of the day was the exterior gardens, when the fighting spilled outside. A rather magnificent display of floral horticulture was entirely wrecked.

Outcome

The temple priests had to cancel the next week's worth of ceremonies until the interior could be fixed and the artifacts repaired or replaced.   Those who died were resurrected, free of charge, by a local innkeeper, to avoid having to pay damages to the temple for letting the groom's friends leave his establishment so recklessly inebriated.

Aftermath

Reparations were paid to the elves for the loss of honor in not being the ones to instigate the fight. After a protracted legal battle, it was determined that since the human groom was the one who had pursued the elvish bride, it was ultimately his actions that had led to his friends' arrival and the subsequent battle.
