Growth Rate & Stages

From hatching Sea Hawks require immediate training and handling by people if they are wanted for use in hunting and ranging, as they grow extremely quick and if not trained from birth will become wild before their first year.    They reach full growth around 1 year old, and will continue growing slighlty until they reach about 5. During this time training is important as they become harder to teach how to hunt and recall as they get older.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Sea Hawks will feed in off whatever is fed to them by their handlers mainly, but whilst out hunting will prefer small rodents and fish.   They do like raccoon, and are often given it as a treat by their handlers.

Domestication

The Sea Hawk is a hybrid species of Hawk, used by sailors and soilders of Winter's Grasp for their excellant hunting, inteligence and perception. Combining the traits of its two parents speices the Erendocian Mountain Hawk and the Eotway Grassland Hawk.

Average Intelligence

Sea Hawks are extremely intelligent, and are exceptionally easy to train. They are able to recall and range up to 20 miles from their home whislt around land, and will often be used on ships where they can range out 30 miles from a ship. Their handlers are often very closely linked to their bird, being able to see through their eyes, either through natural magical ability, or using magical items.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Sea Hawks have extremely acute eyesight, being able to hunt mice and fish with pinpoint precision.

History

Originally bred from an Erendocian Mountain Hawk and an Eaotway Grassland Hawk, sailors in Winter's Grasp wanting to breed and train Hawks specifically for hunting and ranging on thier islands and at sea.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Sea Hawks often have light grey feathers around their wings and back, with a darker plumage over their chests, and bright red tail feathers, making them extremely easy to spot from a distance.
