The Thorned Staff

The Thorned Staff is a magical item of supposedly immense power. A 4ft (or 122cm) long staff made of ebony, with a crest of obsidian at its tip, the Thorned Staff is said to have been wielded by Kandetreath prior to the Great Tragedy. Allegedly, Kandetreath used the staff when healing and protecting her people from the plagues and destruction that befell them. It's said that the Thorned Staff possesses the ability to let even the most untalented cast spells such as Bless and Cure Wounds, but it is also said to possess the ability to cast spells such as Greater Restoration, Aura of Life, Aura of Purity, and once a moon, Power Word Heal.

History

Lost for centuries, the Thorned Staff is said to have been wielded by Kandetreath. It is this staff that apparently helped save her people from ruin. The staff was supposedly made by the elders of the Order of the Moon in order to congratulate Kandetreath, then Kir, on becoming a shaman. No one has been able to find it, some theorize that the staff is with the Goddess herself, while others believe that it rests at the site of the Order of the Moon. To those who worship the Goddess, this is the ultimate challenge, to find her staff and return it, if it is truly lost.

Significance

Believed to have been owned by the Goddess of Peaceful Death and Shadow, the Church of the Purple Rose covets the staff and has been desperately searching for it as a symbol of her, and their, power.
