A Pre-game Interview with Connie Furr

Are you a morning person, or more of a night owl?
I like the night because it's when you can see the stars.
What’s the first thing you notice about a person when you meet them?
I've got pretty sensitive ears, so the first thing I tend to notice is any noise they make. But I have magic goggles that make me see super well too, so I also notice what they look like.
You see a huge spider in your room, what do you do?
Uh… is it a scary spider? If it’s a scary spider then I probably hide, otherwise, maybe we can be friends?
If you could go back and change one decision you made in the past, what would you change?
Okay, don’t be mad but really I don't think it's helpful to dwell on past decisions. Because, well, they’re like, in the past, you know? And I don’t know how to travel back in time yet.
Tell me about your first kiss.
Ew, no! I mean, sorry, but bunny girls can be kinda… fetishised in the court if you know what I mean? So, I try to stay away from all that sort of stuff.
Do you give people second chances?
I don’t normally get to make that call, to be honest. But yeah, I guess everyone deserves as many chances as it takes to get it right, you know?
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
Can we… like, not talk about dogs or whatever, please? I’m a bunny, and dogs and bunnies have a bit of a chequered history.
Do you think you’re attractive?
I think I’m cute, if that’s what you mean.
What’s your worst habit?
I’m a bit of a blabbermouth. If I have your ear to fill with my talking, you’ll probably get tired before I do.
When was the last time you cried?
Probably just before Vulpi- I mean, Hugo - bought me from the Menagerie… Oh wait, no, I cried when we got back to the court because the room I would live in was so pretty… And I cried when Hugo showed me a real telescope for the first time… And I cried this morning because the carrot Hugo brought me tasted like home… and I cried just before this interview because I was nervous about the questions you might ask me… I guess that was the last time I cried. But it’s okay; everybunny needs a good cry every few days or so! You always feel so much better afterwards.
Are you a good liar?
Um… I think so? I mean, I normally just say whatever pops into my head, whether it’s true or pretend, so I guess that makes it difficult to judge if I’m telling the truth or not.
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
I don’t like it when bigger people bully littler people. Or, I guess when littler people bully bigger people… but that one happens less often in my experience anyway… I don’t like bullies, I guess.
Have you ever had your heart broken?
I’m pleased to say I haven’t yet! My heart is all good and working in tip top condition, and hopefully it will stay that way for a good while yet.
Are you more likely to use your fists or your words in an argument?
I tend to avoid arguments whenever possible. But when it’s not possible to run away, I don’t think my fists would be especially effective, so I guess words. It’s probably better if Hugo does the persuading, though, he’s so good at it.
What’s something you’re naturally good at?
Jumping! And stargazing!
What’s something you had to work hard to be good at?
Positivity! I don’t like to feel down, so I try to look for the silver lining. Sometimes it’s hard, but I think it’s worth working at!
Can you tell when someone is flirting with you?
I’m pretty sure no-one’s ever flirted with me, so how would I know?
Do you think money can buy happiness?
I don’t know. Maybe. Money can certainly buy lettuce and lettuce makes me happy, so in that sense, yeah I think money can probably buy happiness. But also, I guess it depends what you mean by happiness. LIke, true contentedness only exists in the Briarpatch, and by its nature brambles aren’t a paid-for experience. Brambles are free fruit for everyone to share. The humans call them weeds, but that’s because they don’t know any better. We bunnies know better… wait, what was the question again?
Do you believe in destiny?
That’s a pretty big question for a little bunny… [silent contemplation until next question].
Are you a good cook?
Who needs to be a good cook when there’s so much delicious raw food to sample?
What do you think happens after you die?
Well, as an oracle of Bramble the Prince of Rabbits, it would be pretty surprising if I didn’t end up in the Briarpatch with him when I die… although, knowing Bramble, I guess that’s maybe just the kind of trick he’d pull… temporarily, any way.
Did you have to grow up fast?
I’m a bunny. I’ve not really grown up very much at all. I’m little.
Who do you look up to?
Can I refer you to my previous answer? I look up to basically everyone. I’m little.
When you go to a tavern, what do you order?
BANANANANANANA MILKSHAKE!!!!!!!!!!
What do you like most about yourself?
I’m a good listener.
What do you like least about yourself?
I wish I was better at defending myself....
Do you want kids someday?
Kinda against the stereotype for a bunny, but I don’t really feel like being tied to a warren all my life. And once bunnies have five or six kids, before you know it, you’re the matriarch of an entire burrow and that just seems like far too much responsibility to handle.
Are you a planner or more spontaneous?
I don’t think I really have the attention span to make plans.
Can you keep a secret?
A secret shared is a secret halved!
Do you like being the centre of attention?
Yeah, it’s fun. People look at you and go, ‘aw how cute!’ And it’s true. I am all the cute!
If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
I would eat all the devil lettuce I could get my paws on. And top it off with Banananananana MILKSHAKE!!! Oh, and I’d probably hang out with Vulpix and Lindie too. Because, you know, I’m sure they’ll miss me and want to have as much time as possible in my company before I go on the next stage of my journey towards the Briarpatch.
Do you enjoy getting all dressed up for a special occasion?
Heck to the yes! It always makes me feel happy to be in something cute and pretty!
Where do you feel safe?
…I’m not sure I ever feel safe. But that’s all part of the fun of living, amirite?
Do you love or hate being alone?
I love being alone! I get to chat to myself and think deep thoughts. And sing without anyone telling me to shush.
What’s the last nightmare you remember having?
Probably something about the menagerie. But let’s not bring up that stuff. It’s kinda depressing and no-one likes to be depressed.
Do you admit to mistakes when you make them?
I don’t need to! That’s the beauty of having an all knowing Prince of Bunnies watching over me - he’s already picked up on my mistakes long before I realise I’ve messed up, so if I were to dwell on them, it would be like committing them twice. Do you see?
Do you want to grow up to be like your parents?
My parents are the sweetest bunnies in the whole entire city. But, they are a bit… lowly for my liking. I like to reach for the stars, and they prefer to stay underground. But if I could be caring and compassionate like them, that would be a good thing!
How do you deal with being sick? Are you stoic or super whiney?
I don’t think I’m whiney, exactly, but I’m a lot more needy of affection and attention. But that’s because it makes me feel better to be looked after when I’m ill. And that makes me get well faster.
What did your parents expect from you when you were born?
Probably that I grow into a happy and faithful Brambleite; I’m sure they’d be proud of me, if they knew I was still alive.
Do you have a strong sense of style?
Uh, yeah, I guess so. My favourite outfit is normally whatever I’m wearing at the time!
Would you rather camp outdoors or stay the night in an inn?
Camp outdoors, where I can watch the stars as I fall asleep.
Is there a food that most people like but you absolutely hate?
As a vegetarian, I won’t eat meat products and can’t really fathom why humans and all the other meat-eaters are so keen to eat other animals when we’re living right alongside them.
Are you more of a hoarder or a minimalist?
I keep everything that makes me happy and get rid of anything that doesn’t. So, kind of half and half I guess?
Are you superstitious?
It’s not superstitions if it’s real.
Are you the kind of person who remembers people’s birthdays and pet’s names and stuff?
I’m the kind of bunny who remembers pet’s names but doesn’t remember owner’s names, and who remembers people’s birthdays but doesn’t remember people’s funerals.
What do you do to feel better when you’re sad?
I talk to Bramble… he doesn’t talk back much, but it helps that he can’t help but listen on account of his sensitive hearing.
Is it hard for you to trust someone?
I trust everyone.
Are you susceptible to peer pressure?
Not really. We’re all super different, so what’s right for my peers might not be right for me. It would be boring if we all did the same things all the time.
If you decided to stop adventuring and settle down, what kind of job would you take?
The adventure doesn’t stop if you settle down. You’re always learning and exploring new things. But if I were to settle down, I would hope it could be somewhere near an observatory.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Happy! And I am! Lucky me!
