An Interview with Atkin Jackalslicer

Are you a morning person, or more of a night owl?
I have trained myself to master the morning, although I am more naturally inclined towards night.
What’s the first thing you notice about a person when you meet them?
I see their garb, and the statements they have chosen to make with it.
You see a huge spider in your room, what do you do?
I will ask a servant to remove it with care.
If you could go back and change one decision you made in the past, what would you change?
If I had given different counsel to my husband regarding one of his first political moves as Vizier, our family may not have gained certain enemies of note.
Tell me about your first kiss.
My marriage was arranged, to bolster two weakened houses. We went out together a few times before the wedding day. Shared our first kiss on the third of those, at the gate of my father’s estate.
Do you give people second chances?
Where I feel that I safely can, yes.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
I have a dog, although it is more for propriety than any personal passion. Most canines dislike goblinoids, but the menageries have been able to breed some that seemingly do not dislike us more than they do anyone else.
Do you think you’re attractive?
I was sadly not gifted with beauty by any race’s standards.
What’s your worst habit?
Punctiliousness seems to be the quality that gains me the most criticism.
When was the last time you cried?
Some months ago, on an occasion where our guards were exchanging stories. Our guard captain is a close family friend.
Are you a good liar?
As much as any noble, certainly.
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
I am extremely averse to carelessness, after a lifetime of habit.
Have you ever had your heart broken?
Not at all; I have no major criticisms of my marriage.
Are you more likely to use your fists or your words in an argument?
Words, certainly, by some considerable margin.
What’s something you’re naturally good at?
I am fortunately gifted in multitasking.
What’s something you had to work hard to be good at?
I did take some time to master walking properly in courtly attire, if truth be told.
Can you tell when someone is flirting with you?
I do not believe I have been given cause to know.
Do you think money can buy happiness?
I do not know that I believe in happiness at all as those of a romantic bent would see it. I believe in stability and survival.
Do you believe in destiny?
I do not. The world is seldom so convenient.
Are you a good cook?
I am passable.
What do you think happens after you die?
Peace in the beyond, if we are fortunate.
Did you have to grow up fast?
No faster than any other noble, I should imagine.
Who do you look up to?
My mother performed the same role as I do for some time before I did, and has passed a great deal of expertise on to me.
When you go to a tavern, what do you order?
When I am out only with the family, I often indulge in goblinvine beer. At more public occasions, I stick to water and wine.
What do you like most about yourself?
I have a propensity to retain a cool head and keen eye for detail.
What do you like least about yourself?
My shape and stature are an impediment to my role which requires some awkward corrections.
Do you want kids someday?
I am too old for more.
Are you a planner or more spontaneous?
I plan a great deal, as my station demands it.
Can you keep a secret?
I can. My station demands that also.
Do you like being the centre of attention?
If only I did, my role would be an easier one.
If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
I would like to enjoy one more evening with my extended family.
Do you enjoy getting all dressed up for a special occasion?
Not particularly, but needs must.
Where do you feel safe?
When the household is together, alone, within the estate. Although as time goes on even that becomes less certain.
Do you love or hate being alone?
It is often a welcome change of pace to be alone with my thoughts.
What’s the last nightmare you remember having?
I’m afraid I will not speak of my nightmares to those outside my household.
Do you admit to mistakes when you make them?
I would not do so in public.
Do you want to grow up to be like your parents?
In many ways, yes.
How do you deal with being sick? Are you stoic or super whiney?
It is rarely wise to show too much of weakness in my position.
What did your parents expect from you when you were born?
Nobility inherits its own expectations.
Do you have a strong sense of style?
I have become accustomed to the act of balancing the traditional and contemporary in ways that will not arouse too much comment.
Would you rather camp outdoors or stay the night in an inn?
The realities of outdoor camping are unknown to me, although I enjoyed my grandfather’s stories in my youth.
Is there a food that most people like but you absolutely hate?
I do not care for citrus fruits, for the most part.
Are you more of a hoarder or a minimalist?
I would not consider myself either. I have possessions for a wide array of occasions, but retain only those that serve a purpose.
Are you superstitious?
Not in public.
Are you the kind of person who remembers people’s birthdays and pet’s names and stuff?
Yes, with some effort.
What do you do to feel better when you’re sad?
I spend time out with the horses.
Is it hard for you to trust someone?
By necessity, yes.
Are you susceptible to peer pressure?
In my position, it is required.
If you decided to stop adventuring and settle down, what kind of job would you take?
Perhaps a nurse, or a charwoman. My strengths tend towards care and attention to detail.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Although I have always intended to become a Viziera, in my youth I did dabble in also becoming a cleric.
