An Interview with Kronk Greenskin

Are you a morning person, or more of a night owl?
I am built for night, but my duties require that I be active earlier.
What’s the first thing you notice about a person when you meet them?
Musculature.
You see a huge spider in your room, what do you do?
It should not be here. It will be crushed. I would rather not risk that it lays eggs.
If you could go back and change one decision you made in the past, what would you change?
…I would not marry.
Tell me about your first kiss.
I may not speak of the first, and will not. I would say only little of the second. His name was Joppa. A scholar. Apprentice to a translator of my father’s. We earned my family’s blessing. He too is gone.
Do you give people second chances?
Not most people.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
I appreciate both. My father had dogs. I have two, but also a cat.
Do you think you’re attractive?
I am too old to consider such things.
What’s your worst habit?
I smoke a great deal now that I have no child in the house.
When was the last time you cried?
Only once since the Widowrage, when my daughter was fifteen, and I feared for her.
Are you a good liar?
I am when I must be.
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Light. In my father’s and grandfather’s day, court was held most often in near darkness.
Have you ever had your heart broken?
In orc tradition, we roar the Widowrage when a belovéd partner is taken from us. I have roared the Widowrage.
Are you more likely to use your fists or your words in an argument?
I am better at fists, but in these times I must use words.
What’s something you’re naturally good at?
I have patience.
What’s something you had to work hard to be good at?
I have raised a daughter by toil and effort.
Can you tell when someone is flirting with you?
Once or twice I could.
Do you think money can buy happiness?
Happiness requires both power and wisdom. Wisdom is forged. Power is bought.
Do you believe in destiny?
Yes.
Are you a good cook?
No.
What do you think happens after you die?
There is a Garden Beyond the Stars. That much I believe.
Did you have to grow up fast?
More fast than some.
Who do you look up to?
My father was a great Vizier. My mother was a formidable Viziera. I would not say more.
When you go to a tavern, what do you order?
Ale.
What do you like most about yourself?
I am not swayed by things that many are.
What do you like least about yourself?
I have not the strength my father had.
Do you want kids someday?
No more.
Are you a planner or more spontaneous?
I favour order.
Can you keep a secret?
I can when I must.
Do you like being the centre of attention?
I do not at my age.
If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
I would call my daughter and my son-in-law home. It is important that they have input in the arrangements. I have a will in place, if my daughter consents. I would also try to finish one of the chain mails I am constructing.
Do you enjoy getting all dressed up for a special occasion?
There is something to enjoy in the eyes of those who see me in my crown.
Where do you feel safe?
There is no safety anywhere for orcs any more.
Do you love or hate being alone?
I prefer being alone to many alternatives.
What’s the last nightmare you remember having?
I would not speak on that, save that it showed men of iron and a rage that split the earth. Such images I’m sure have no meaning worth speaking of.
Do you admit to mistakes when you make them?
It would be too dangerous.
Do you want to grow up to be like your parents?
It is alas too late for that.
How do you deal with being sick? Are you stoic or super whiney?
I have not whined in many years.
What did your parents expect from you when you were born?
That I would lead and govern and protect, as they had done before.
Do you have a strong sense of style?
No. My senses favour substance.
Would you rather camp outdoors or stay the night in an inn?
I am too old now to camp outdoors.
Is there a food that most people like but you absolutely hate?
I do not like any of non-orcish cuisine.
Are you more of a hoarder or a minimalist?
There are aspects of my culture that may be lost if I do not find a place for them.
Are you superstitious?
Perhaps.
Are you the kind of person who remembers people’s birthdays and pet’s names and stuff?
I am.
What do you do to feel better when you’re sad?
I light the forge and pump the bellows. And hammer steel against the anvil. Although I cannot do so for long any more.
Is it hard for you to trust someone?
Yes.
Are you susceptible to peer pressure?
By the standards of my heritage, alas, I am.
If you decided to stop adventuring and settle down, what kind of job would you take?
I think I would have to be an armourer.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Enough.
