An Interview with Leopold Stargazer

Are you a morning person, or more of a night owl?
My body clock adapts to what I need it to. I used to work odd hours. Now I just work long ones.
What’s the first thing you notice about a person when you meet them?
What do they have on them that’s old or magic? And do they look like they know what they’ve got?
You see a huge spider in your room, what do you do?
Regular or magic spider? The former I ignore; the latter I catch for study.
If you could go back and change one decision you made in the past, what would you change?
Buy safety goggles.
Tell me about your first kiss.
Snuck down into the dwarven undercity with a lass named Arabella when I was 14. Found a way into a blocked-off temple my old dad hadn’t gotten access to yet, and got caught up in the excitement.
Do you give people second chances?
Relic hunting’s a cut-throat business. Courtiering’s even more.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
I’ve grown sweet on my wife’s cat. Few encounters with Gnolls in my youth put me off dogs, mostly.
Do you think you’re attractive?
Ah, not any more. Time and accidents chipped all of that away.
What’s your worst habit?
I’ve got a short temper these days. Blame it on age.
When was the last time you cried?
‘Bout thirty years ago, unless you count the day I lost my eye.
Are you a good liar?
That’s a leading question.
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
Paperwork.
Have you ever had your heart broken?
Never foolish enough to let it.
Are you more likely to use your fists or your words in an argument?
I was more of a fist man in my younger days, but times and decorum have changed.
What’s something you’re naturally good at?
I’ve always had the Sailor’s favour when it comes to figuring out the arcane and how to make use of it.
What’s something you had to work hard to be good at?
Took some time to adapt to politics, but I had my wife’s help.
Can you tell when someone is flirting with you?
Not something I think about.
Do you think money can buy happiness?
It buys the means to pursue it, and that’s enough.
Do you believe in destiny?
The Sailor must have chosen me for good reason.
Are you a good cook?
Good enough for my purposes, if not for anyone else’s.
What do you think happens after you die?
A voyage beyond the stars.
Did you have to grow up fast?
Nay, my parents had enough clout in the important circles.
Who do you look up to?
My old mother survived an exploration out into the Screaming Desert. Not a path I would follow, but I respect it.
When you go to a tavern, what do you order?
Gin most often. Gin and lime.
What do you like most about yourself?
I’m quick-witted. A survivor.
What do you like least about yourself?
Made some rash mistakes in my youth which I now must live with the consequences of.
Do you want kids someday?
Aye, I could make use of more.
Are you a planner or more spontaneous?
Never had the better knack for planning. I let others handle that.
Can you keep a secret?
That’s what I’m in the court for.
Do you like being the centre of attention?
Never been bothered one way or t’other.
If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
Drink and reminisce.
Do you enjoy getting all dressed up for a special occasion?
More of a bother than anything else.
Where do you feel safe?
In the midst of things.
Do you love or hate being alone?
Helps to have someone to toss ideas at.
What’s the last nightmare you remember having?
Got a few rattling around that are the remnants of curses that didn’t take. Last one was a courtroom full of ghouls with a demon for a judge.
Do you admit to mistakes when you make them?
What are you getting at?
Do you want to grow up to be like your parents?
I’ve already a lot of my father in me. Wouldn’t choose the path of my mother.
How do you deal with being sick? Are you stoic or super whiney?
Can’t abide it. Usually get myself a cure as soon as possible.
What did your parents expect from you when you were born?
They trusted the Sailor to nudge me the right ways himself.
Do you have a strong sense of style?
Style has nothing on substance, lad.
Would you rather camp outdoors or stay the night in an inn?
It’d be nice to stay outdoors again, but impractical these days.
Is there a food that most people like but you absolutely hate?
Anything sweet, but I’ve learned to take everything with lime juice to compensate.
Are you more of a hoarder or a minimalist?
A proper workshop is one well-stocked enough only I can find anything in it.
Are you superstitious?
There’s fragments of truth and power in all sorts of places. Need to recognise that to know how to use it.
Are you the kind of person who remembers people’s birthdays and pet’s names and stuff?
Getting too on in years these days.
What do you do to feel better when you’re sad?
Go through my collection and reminisce.
Is it hard for you to trust someone?
Didn’t get where I am without watching my back.
Are you susceptible to peer pressure?
Too old and too smart for that.
If you decided to stop adventuring and settle down, what kind of job would you take?
I did. My new job is politics.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A relic hunter like my old dad.
