Are you a morning person, or more of a night owl?
It’s normally safer for me to be out in the dark, when those who might notice me would assume the Katib to be inside.
What’s the first thing you notice about a person when you meet them?
The difference between how they react to this form, as opposed to how they react to those of higher influence, can be quite enlightening.
You see a huge spider in your room, what do you do?
Since Brambleson’s gifts generally allow me to cross the city unpursued, I can be pretty sure that any spiders in the further down lodgings would be unaware of my true identity. It would be safe for me to leave it only… well, if Lindie is with me it may be safer for the spider if I were to take it outside.
If you could go back and change one decision you made in the past, what would you change?
I… would have stuck around for a little longer at the collapse of my cousin’s house. If my father weren’t the first one on the scene, things might have gone differently.
Tell me about your first kiss.
Never in this form - and I don’t intend for that to change.
Do you give people second chances?
By my nature, I’ve basically got two chances to make a good first impression - it only seems right to extend the favour.
Are you a cat person or a dog person?
I mean [gestures to self]… I’m dog enough to frighten Connie.
Do you think you’re attractive?
More attractive than my human counterpart, anyway.
What’s your worst habit?
It’s either accidentally slipping into the noble, or getting too comfortable as the fox.
When was the last time you cried?
Same incident in both forms, actually. Just over five years ago.
Are you a good liar?
If you think about it, my entire identity is lies hiding lies… I try not to think about it.
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
That, even in my own head, the human identity is the "real" one.
Have you ever had your heart broken?
Yes. Painfully. As I struggled to force my body to switch back.
Are you more likely to use your fists or your words in an argument?
It’s easier to slip up on words when you’re trying to hide everything about yourself. But old habits die hard, and I’d rather not fight if I can at all help it.
What’s something you’re naturally good at?
Disguise.
What’s something you had to work hard to be good at?
Unmasking.
Can you tell when someone is flirting with you?
Generally, yes, although it would be cruel to reciprocate, given the demands of my other form.
Do you think money can buy happiness?
Absolutely not… but, well, purely from observation, not having money does seem to cause a lot of unhappiness too.
Do you believe in destiny?
I’ve got an extremely illegal stash of bramble artefacts and pieces of god soul that it would be remarkably unwise to hold onto if I didn’t believe it was all leading towards something important.
Are you a good cook?
I prefer to spend noble silver on redistributing wealth to the service industry.
What do you think happens after you die?
If I die in this form? I imagine my parents may resurrect me just to kill me again - to ensure I died in the other one.
Did you have to grow up fast?
I never got the chance to grow up at all. The fox was pretty swiftly disciplined away before I can really properly remember.
Who do you look up to?
I wonder if I’m the only canid in the city who unironically worships the Prince of Rabbits?
When you go to a tavern, what do you order?
Something sweet and non-alcoholic. It’s been a while since I lost control of my form, but it still seems imprudent to get inebriated unnecessarily.
What do you like most about yourself?
The anonymity is quite helpful on occasion. And it’s freeing to be able to be more myself, slightly distanced from the crushing oversight of the Court.
What do you like least about yourself?
I don’t get out much.
Do you want kids someday?
I’d… under other circumstances I’d maybe be open to adopting.
Are you a planner or more spontaneous?
Naturally spontaneous, although the paranoia of the noble side of me is more inclined to plan.
Can you keep a secret?
Ha! Keeping a pretty big one here.
Do you like being the centre of attention?
Seems… risky.
If you knew you were going to die tomorrow, what would you do today?
I’d… switch back and go see Castor.
Do you enjoy getting all dressed up for a special occasion?
Being in this form is a special occasion, and I dress in full bramble, provided we’re low enough in the city that the authorities aren’t watching too closely.
Where do you feel safe?
I can outrun almost everything in this form, and those I can't evade, I can generally fool through shapeshifting.
Do you love or hate being alone?
It’s nice that both Lindie and Connie know about the fox, so I get to choose whichever I feel like at the time.
What’s the last nightmare you remember having?
Oh, I don’t sleep like this - although about a year ago there was one particularly vivid nightmare about my mother that seeped a little too far into reality. Thank stars none of the nobles saw that.
Do you admit to mistakes when you make them?
They're only mistakes if you don't learn from them.
Do you want to grow up to be like your parents?
Do I want to grow up to be a closeted psychopathic sadist? Huh, no thanks.
How do you deal with being sick? Are you stoic or super whiney?
Normally sickness confines me to my parents’ estate, meaning I’d be in human form. If I’m the fox, that means there’s stuff I need to do. I’ll whine when it’s over.
What did your parents expect from you when you were born?
Non-existence.
Do you have a strong sense of style?
Connie tells me that one of the core tenets of the Bramble Faith is that things should be pretty, and that’s a principle I am more than happy to lean into.
Would you rather camp outdoors or stay the night in an inn?
I prefer to be comfy as long as paying for lodgings doesn’t alert my parents to what I’ve been up to.
Is there a food that most people like but you absolutely hate?
I have heard that carnivorous beastfolk often eat their meat raw, which sounds nauseating.
Are you more of a hoarder or a minimalist?
Anything I don’t keep, I’m pretty sure Lindie adds to her collection, so I don’t really have very much of a choice in the matter.
Are you superstitious?
I’ve spent the past few moons trying to track down Angel Dust to commune with deities to try to convince them to relinquish a piece of their soul to prevent an apocalypse that was foretold through astrology. What do you think?
Are you the kind of person who remembers people’s birthdays and pet’s names and stuff?
In this form, why would I need to?
What do you do to feel better when you’re sad?
I’m not going to waste the little time that I can be like this on sadness. I’ll ignore it and if I’m still upset after I need to change back then I’ll deal with it then.
Is it hard for you to trust someone?
Extremely, when it comes to the fox thing. I’ve never deliberately revealed both forms to anyone. Not even Castor. Sometimes I selfishly wish he’d seen when… but that’d have been disastrous, it’s safer if he doesn’t know.
Are you susceptible to peer pressure?
I’ve not really had enough time as Vulpix to have worked that out yet. I tend to let Connie do most of the talking when we interact with other people, so they don’t often try to pressure me.
If you decided to stop adventuring and settle down, what kind of job would you take?
If… if I were free to openly live as a kitsune. I think I would maybe lean further into the freedom fighter gig. Which… uh, doesn’t say very good things about my current efforts.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Kitsune… or human. Just, not hiding.
