Sumac

Like most herbs found in Palimpsest, sumac is grown in the hanging plantpots of the city. This strong, tangy crimson spice is used to season meats, and can help unscrupulous butchers mask if their produce has slightly turned by reddening the meat and concealing any sour rot flavour. The sumac plant is also used as a red cloth dye.
Subvizier Sumac Baharat was named after this spice, in the elven nature-inspired naming traditions.
