The Heart Beats On (Qu'onan the Warrior Elf: Book 14)

Previous Installment: Book 13: Dust of Twilight
Next Installment: Book 15: Puppy Love

The Heart Beats On is the 14th novel in Talitha Spice's award-winning Qu'onan the Warrior Elf series, and follows Qu'onan as he infiltrates a cult of ghouls during the festival of Hastur. The portrayal of Hastur in the novel bears little resemblance to the real festival, and instead focuses on the ghouls' ghastly obsession with hearts (both love hearts and the removal of organs). The Prince in Saffron, who is a god-level deity in the actual religion, appears as a mundane, ghoulish villain who is stabbed by both of Qu'onan's scimitars.   The novel was published in 1257, making it one of the earlier books in the series. At the time of its writing, the Honourable Company was relatively new, so the book was able to include religious references that would have been unpublishable a few decades later. It is now one of the least circulated books in the Qu'onan saga and is not sold in any of the upper levels of Palimpsest.

Summary

In this exciting installment of the exotic, lustrous adventures of Qu'onan the Warrior Elf, Qu'onan embarks on another perilous journey to prove himself to the Guild of the Sixty-Nine Scimitars. He is sent across the treacherous Screaming Desert to infiltrate a cabal of ghoulish cultists during the grotesque festival of Hastur. But what started as a quest of a warrior's art soon becomes a test of a warrior's heart when Qu'onan finds himself the honoured guest of the Prince in Saffron, and the sacrifice for the evening's entertainment. Before he loses his heart, figuratively and literally, to a ghoul maiden with a thirst for elven organs, can Qu'onan stick to his objective, or will he discover that... The Heart Beats On?
