Leánh n-Coílh ([ɫan n-kvɘɫ])
The Elves ("Children of the Forest") were the second inhabitants of Tarell (elvish Tar n-Ghéldh - "Land of the Moon"). During the course of the Dragon-Elven wars and the Human-Elven war aswell as the persecution at the hand of the first men, the Elven realms in the North were reduced to Domh an-Craính ("Craính's Realm") and Coílh an-Thrénn ("Thrénn's Wood"). In the South, Elves are tolerated and mostly left undisturbed, yet are required to pay tribute to the High-Lordship of Bar.
Their culture and traditions evolve around being one with nature, knowledge and magic. Elves are naturally gifted, which they see as a blessing of their moon godess Ghéldh (Guén in the Southern Human realms). It is said, that the first Elves were born under the moonlight. They see the sun as a projection of Ghéldh and the stars as their ancestors residing next to their mother and godess in the night sky.
Whereas the "Wood Elves" of the North are very isolationist and hostile towards foreigners, specializing in archery and hunting, the "High Elves" of the South grew to be valuable merchants and advisors within the Human realms. The "Moon Elves" of Dun n-Draén ("Castle of Light") developed a deep sense for the magical nature of the world and strive to collect as much knowledge as possible.
On the island of Olínn n-Ghreánn ("Isle of Trees") a group of Elven outcasts became known as the "Blood Elves" for experimenting with Necromancy, turning themselves into what the common folk knows as vampires. Those amongst those outcasts without magical powers and the inability to cast Blood spells became known as "Dark Elves", building both highest administrators aswell as elite fighters.
