Giterikin Aeroanimism
An ancient religious tradition within The Giteri, based around the worship and beseechment of wind-spirits.
Questions:
- what ceremonies do the windwise officiate? no weddings, but births and funerals for sure - think of the impact forLebayel the Lifter
- do Windwise serve as the justice system? how "fair" is it? how based on faith are the shamans' decisions? to what degree does their system inspire Mendil, Nidari Duelist?
- mythic past as a result of Limited Good - in the past, there were fewer people, so each one had more power, and was more worthy and fortunate.
Divine Origins
inspired by the very real wind-spirits, such as Eyon, that reside in certain parts of the Giteri, the faith goes back as far as recorded history, predating even the Three-Roles Faiths that have only ever formed a minority in the region.
Tenets of Faith
- Wind bears all things - weather, fortune, health, life, death, souls new and old.
- there is only a certain, unchangeable quantity of anything in the world - lives, goodness, luck, what have you
- when you die, your soul is born on to a new place to be born.
- by appeasing the winds with offerings, acts of devotion, and living according to their model and instruction, they will reward you with good fortune.
- winds admire courage, movement, artistry, boldness, travel, curiosity and change.
Worship
aside from variations in specific spirits worshiped and styles of ritual used to beseech them, the main variation within Aeroanimism is how much it is aligned with Gyrism. Gyrism is a more structured faith with a broad set of beliefs that are mostly compatible with Aeroanimism. Conclaves can have both Witnesses and Shamans, and tend towards more formal and ethics-based frameworks of worship and life-rules.
Compared to other branches of Gyrism, it Focuses on the flow of essence, using wind currents as a prime example and metaphor. Few general doctrinal features uniformly in common, but generally related by the same set of holy days, conclave structures, rituals and social mores. Pilgrimage is especially important, in general, to Giterikin, who emphasise travel and movement ideologically if not in practice.
Gates
Gates are the religious structures of Giterikin Gyrism and aeroanimism - walked through to represent journeys, used in births, funerals, and betrothals, as well as in Windwise spirit communion. for those who do not get to travel, the ritual of the gate is the next best thing. Best placed so a wind often blows through them, ruffling the feathers and jangling charms that bedeck them. The Wandering
The Wandering is the term for a ritual procession that passes through the gate, often including the entire village, but also refers to a state of mind, of spontaneity and openness to impulse. Thus, improvised and chaotic dances and songs and games and other forms of expression often erupt during the Wandering.Priesthood
shamans (honorific "windwise") who are entrusted to communicate with the wind spirits. they do this via artistic media, principally music and dance. how effective it is varies based on whether there is a real spirit or not, its level of sentience, and its disposition.
there is no formal hierarchy for these shamans, but the size of their following and the general perceived effectiveness of their efforts indicates their level of social/political power. within particular domains, there is generally a Shaman or group of Shamans associated with the Kinma who have some degree of prestige, but no technical command over other shamans.
