Maneaters
A broad class of unique creatures - as well as some ethnicities, in the few cases where a breeding population is able to arise - formed by predatory animals consuming human flesh and becoming infused with the essence, thereby gaining intelligence and other human traits.
Maneaters can have widely-varying levels of intelligence, but are frequently sentient. however, those that do not arise in a society tend to be fairly wild and untamed. These lives can be wretched, lonely and short. because of this, and because Maneaters are often common in areas where lots of humans have died - due to warfare, starvation, or disease - and as such are often considered to be ill omens and associated with death.
in some cases, the new personality that emerges from the infusion carries memories, personality traits, or (rarely) the actual consciousness from the consumed human.
common varieties of maneaters:
- human-headed carnivores
- half-human beasts (e.g. humanoid wolfs)
- Sphinxes, specifically in The Giteri.
- half-Sharks
