Mosquito-wolves
Originating in the Mattiha river valley, where blood was as plentiful as water, these mosquito-headed, six-legged, wolf-bodied hunters were considered minor pests when wild, loyal pets when domesticated. However, when the valley dried, the fauna either died out or sought prey further afield. Now the mosquito-wolves hang on as predators in places such as Kerrid, where it is not unusual to awake to find several members of a herd of livestock - or even family members - completely exsanguinated. Possessed of extremely keen senses and very fast and agile, they are deadly beasts, but opportunistic and cowardly, often shying away from any displays of aggression or intimidation. their pup-larvae suckle straight off their mother's blood.
mosquito-wolves now live in the wilder parts of many lands across the continent of Ummea, a perennial threat to travellers and nomadic herds. a sizeable population live in Kerrid.
