Yannasvaer

Infusions: chlorine, lemurs   A ravaged land that his still yet to recover from the vengeful attacks of the fledgeling Caracaran Supplicancy some three thousand years ago, Yannasvaer was once the dominant power of what is now known as central-East Caracar.   This military strength was built on the back of their Chlorists, mages able to perform rituals that influence permanent clouds of Chlorine that hang throughout Yannasvaer, as well as create searing acid rain. Originally developed to move obstructive clouds from the landscape, the military applications were obvious, and soon capitalised on. Though unable to react on tactical or personal combat timescales, their strategic deployment of cloudwalls to block troop movements and clear out encampments, and acid rain to destroy crops, proved vital to extend Yannasvaer's dominion.   One of the regions thus dominated was the wild and untamed Punklands of Ecronaer, where the wild beast that would come to be known as Caracar had dwelt since ancient times. In attempting to kill this disruptive creature, the Yannasvaerans merely angered it, driving it to attack beyond the borders of the Punklands.   Eventually the Chlorists succeeded in trapping Caracar within the marshy interior of Yannasvaer. This had devastating consequences for the traditionally deprived inhabitants of the region, especially being cut off from outside support. They settled on Caracar and learned how to control it, using their few Chlorists to open a gap for the beast to break through. After subduing the rest of Yannasvaer in short order, they forced the remaining Chlorists to place chlorine clouds over the cities, palaces and valleys, where they hang to this day. After this, the Caracarans killed all the Chlorists to remove the hated art from the world.   During the initial reconquering of the surrounding regions, the marshy area that had first fostered the Supplicancy remained important, but as Caracar campaigned first West and then North, the region dwindled into another backwater.   Now, the former cities of Yannasvaer are inhabited only by the desperate and the deliberately outcast.

Geography

in places, the landscape forms stone-forests - sharp limestone pinnacles eroded by acid rain - that are inhabited by lemurs.
