Sai Nemneth Tradition / Ritual in Paneus | World Anvil

Sai Nemneth

I have never seen anything like it and, for all it's beauty and wonder, I hope to never see it's like again. The Fae aren't like us son, and mortals are not meant to experience things the way they do. We aren't equipped to deal with the raw emotion they can experience. It has power, real tangible power, that they can do incredible things with.
— A Druid confiding in his son after witnessing Sai Nemneth
Every 5 years Fae dragons undergo a kind of mating imperative which affects all fae dragons at the same time. This makes things rather uncomfortable for their bonded Pixies, who experience an uncontrollable deluge of emotions through their link with their dragon. Since emotions and magic are closely linked for Pixies, it also produces a massive build up of magical energy within them. Back on their home plane they would simply step into "the void" during their dragon's hours long mating ritual. However, their flight to the plane of Paneus cut this outlet off from them so they had to come up with another way to deal with it. Thus the ritual of Sai Nemneth was created.

History

After the Pixies created Mycellor Forest they realised they needed a barrier to protect it from the outside world, and a barrier of such magnitude would take a lot of power to generate and maintain. As the first mating cycle of the dragons since their flight to Paneus drew near, the Pixies realised they could solve two problems at once. Utilising the magical energy produced by the dragon bonded they wove a magical barrier around their forest. However, since Pixie magic is strongly tied to emotion, and the dragon bonded were experiencing massively fluctuating emotions during the ritual, over time the barrier became erratic and unstable. Realising the barrier needed an "anchor" emotion to stabilise it they quickly settled on what they considered to be the most unifying emotion, Love. When the next mating cycle came around and the barrier was ready to be recharged, every Pixie joined in the ritual. The barrier still had erratic tendencies, as Pixie magic almost has a life of it's own anyway, but at least it was stable. The performing of the ritual soon became a full day festival dedicated to love and protection, Pixies always love an excuse to turn something into a party. It became known as Sai Nemneth which loosely translates to "Love Protects", though in the Pixie tongue it conveys a much more complex idea.

Execution
