Dread Pirate

The double doors of the tavern swung open with a grind of hinges and the groan of wood. The shadow of the man standing in a fine peacoat and tricorn hat stretched long to fall upon a table of four chatting men. One of the men turned to see whose shadow had so rudely interrupted them and gasped.   The sound of his sudden breath silenced his companions who then turned to see why. They, too, gasped and sat frozen as they stared at the man's combed brown beard and narrowed eyes. Others noticed and they, too, turned to look.   Like fast-falling dominos, everyone went silent save for three men who jumped up toppling their chairs, and ran out the back door, one even leaving his money on the cards table.   The man still in the tavern doorway growled out a stern chuckle that danced up and down the spines of everyone else as his icy eyes took their time giving everyone a frigid once over.   "I be lookin' fer a crew," he said in a strong gravelly voice. "You lot'll do just fine."   "Oh no!" A man yelped and hopped up on his peg leg before clumping fast towards the back door. "It's Dread Pirate Dubloon!"   "Thank 'e fer the introduction. You're excused." Doubloon growled loud enough to be clearly heard outside the tavern. As soon as the peg-legged man hurried out the back, burly sailors armed with baling pins came in blocking any chance for escape.   "Drink up yer last, swabbies. It's the pirate life fer you lot now," He continued then roared in laughter as the moans and wails began.
It is a terrible day when someone encounters pirates and such a day only gets worse if they end up facing a pirate captain.   But there is none that can inspire more fear in a sailor than a Dread Pirate who is more than a pirate captain.   A Dread Pirate, more formally called a Pirate-Admiral, not only captains their own ship but commands an entire fleet of pirate ships whose captains all swear their loyalty on pain of death.   Only a Dread Pirate is daring enough to enter a harbor and round up folks to serve on their ships with little fear of the authorities stopping them. Beware when drinking!

This is a nice little story that completely gets the idea across. I enjoy such prose worldbuilding and this is definitely making me more curious about your world. Thankfully, since I don't drink, I likely won't end up in such a situation!   Thank you so much for entering this article category! Quite an interesting read. If you would like me to feature it on one of my reading streams, please feel free to drop by my Twitch channel anytime I'm live and let me know you're watching. (check the schedule here).
