Lich Cologne
Living that eternal life through undeath comes with certain... drawbacks. To be undead one still must have a body that is dead. Unfortunately, this leads to one of the most glaring drawbacks... the stench of a decaying body. Even still-alive necromancers find themselves with this problem as their thralls and minions are zombies and skeletons. Allowing their zombies to decay until they are skeletons is one way to reduce the terrible odors, but a fleshy zombie is much more useful.
It was considered a part of necromancy and so they learned to live with it. Liches, on the other hand, find this to be a grievous complication when trying to deal with the living. A properly tended lich can manage to look alive thus hiding their nature except for the smell. It constantly wafts away from them without being noticeable to the lich, whose sense of smell is as dead as its body.
There are spells that need to be recast to prevent this, but there are times when casting it would be too suspicious. Worse, a lich is always doing... things. Great things. And the mundane castings tend to slip their minds as they focus on important matters.
This problem so annoyed one lich that she made it an important matter to find another solution. In life, Lyra Blueridge had adored perfumes and colognes. She had gone on great expeditions and journeys to places rumored to make fine perfumes. Her lifetime collection was not up to the task so she set about working in her sanctum.
A century or so later, she succeeded. Her formula combines quicksilver, rose thorn sap, and crushed pieces of magma bricks churning them all into an elixir which she then adds to a perfume or cologne and applies it from a spritzer bottle.
This peculiar perfume sprays on like any other and will destroy the scent of death for up to eight hours on a sunny or one hour on a rainy day. It will also present a scent of whichever perfume or cologne her mystic elixir is added to. She has since turned this into a lucrative business that funds her personal matters.

That's a really creative idea with the perfume and I can understand why it became a lucrative business, because what zombie wants to smell like death when they already look like it. I also like your little warning about the dangers for the living. Your article was a nice, entertaining read.
