Muirikan

Muirikan is a neighborhood in every city, large town, or big settlement in the world whose populations sometimes move on to form their own independent settlements within civilized lands. Those who call themselves Muirikans can be of any sentient race as they are united by an ideal and not by blood. Their most treasured creed is that rulership should be of the People, by the People, and for the People.   Within their neighborhoods, Muirikans work hard to be seen as law-abiding citizens even though they despise and distrust all official authorities. From their neighborhoods they secretly support rebellions, dissenters, and the occasional thieves gang by providing coinage, supplies, and training, which they hide exceptionally well. When things seem to be getting to intense or they feel they are being watched by the authorities, Muirikans move to one of their settlements built in rugged unvaluable lands the prevailing rulers have no regard for. Some remain there the rest of their days while others will continue on to a new Muirikan neighborhood   In their settlements, Muirikans have laws made by community voting and collect taxes that go to maintaining community needs like well digging, protection, healing, and teaching. Every citizen has a duty to the community but, in return, if anyone has a need the community will provide the best help it can. Though rebellion and dissention against bad rulerships is not a goal, some feel such is needed in hopes of changing things for the better. An even fewer number crave revenge and that is why they aid and sometimes actually join rebels and dissenters. Those who become Muirikans usually have been victims, or the family of victims, of the petty torments, greedy cruelties, and humiliations many rulerships enjoy doing to their people.
CURIOUS FACTS   As long as there are victims, there will be Muirikans.   To secretly identify each other, Muirikans hum a simple tune, this can be any tune as the same five special notes are then added at the end, while forming a hand into the sign for the bull which is the pointing finger and pinky held upright and remaining fingers folded into the palm under the thumb.   Muirikans created the creative use of the Red Petticoat. They have also developed a code involving scarves and kerchiefs that they have not shared beyond themselves.   Muirikans also travel in wagon homes, providing mid-wiving and herbal medicine. They often act as spies, collecting knowledge on local lords and rulers.
