Sack of Hiding

The Scribbling

A Sack of Hiding has no proper shape or style, as its the sigils put upon any bag, pack, or sack that matter   What is important is that a mage must scribe the sigils onto the sack with a special ink of diamond powder and acacia sap while writing with a feather quill from a snow white owl.

The Power

The power of a Sack of Hiding is to prevent its contents from being discovered by magic. If someone were to scry upon a person carrying the sack, they would see the person but not the sack being carried. Spells designed to find an item that has its own name, as things like artifacts and relics have, will never be found as long as it is within a Sack of Hiding.   Sacks of Hiding are most often used by messengers, merchants, and traveling mages. Being able to keep your precious and rare items out of the notice of another mage is very important. Of late, rogue mages have become a serious problem and some have even partnered with The Hand, a gang of thieves who range all over the Kingdom of Miribex.

Imperfect Protection

All things have their limits and the Sack of Hiding is no exception. Those who use them should take care to study what those are. Most importantly, the Sack of Hiding does not hide itself from being seen by those looking directly at it with their own eyes. It is not truly invisible.   Those with an affinity for magic, like another mage, could see the very faint gleam of the sigils when the Sack of Hiding is in darkness. They must standing within thrity feet of the sack. A simple tactic to prevent this is to place the sack in another container or even covering it with something is all it takes to hide this gleam.   A truly rare means of countering the power of a Sack of Hiding is to locate a named item the sack is holding by the Map Scry spell. This is such an indirect type of magic that bothering to add the much more complicated sigil to protect against it is not worth the added cost. Diamond powder inks are very expensive! Additionally, this is a very antiquated magic that has not been taught for at least two hundred years. The simple tactic to countering this, if it is ever suspected someone is bothering to use such magic, is to move the sack frequently.

The sigils are often hidden within decorative patterns where even those who know what they are looking for have a difficult time seeing them.   Mages who have developed their artistic skills can make a small fortune for themselves by beaitifully hidding the sigils.

Oo sounds like it'd be very useful to have. I like that you can hide the gleam by putting it inside another bag. :D

I love the idea of a nondetection sack! It makes sense in a world where divination magic exists. It also makes a ton of sense that people like messengers & merchants make use of these sacks.   PS: map scrying is an article you have, but you have not linked it through the @ feature. I'd recommend using it ;)

I like the powers of the bag, and the limitations. That last paragraph about the antiquated magic is a great addition.
