The Secret of Coral Cove

It is said the Basquay Sea never reveals her secrets without a price. What that price entails is as mysterious and varied as the sea herself. It is also said that Nijiri, goddess of tempests, is continuously vexed at the sea for refusing to share her secrets with the goddess which is why so many storms blow across its waters. ~ Old Pirate Belief
Basquay is a shallow sea filled with many places that could be and have been, named Coral Cove. This particular Coral Cove is located in the Rapids, a strange place filled with countless tiny lowland islands that stand a mere handful of feet above the water. Getting through the Rapids is something to be done with extreme care to keep a ship from having its hull smashed open or running aground on one of them.   Nestled deep in these dangerous waters is a tiny archipelago that stands well above the water so is able to be seen. Sadly, this has drawn many of the curious and desperate into trouble. But, those few who have succeded, they found Coral Cove.

Below the waves, Coral is breathtakingly beautiful as coral and sponges display the full rainbow of colors as they carpet every solid surface. The shape of the island seems to wrap the cove in a soothing hug that prevents any storm from doing harm those who live there. Even a large water spout will find it nearly impossible to pull schools of creatures up into the sky as the uneven ruggedness breaks that power. And, it is here that a creature, the very last of its kind, slumbers in a hollow.   The fish of Coral Cove tend to, keeping it and its slumbering place clean and comfortable. Turtles who ride the currents exploring the sea return to whisper tales of their discoveries. But it is the merfolk that on rare occassions visit the cove and sing in honor of its beauty who unknowingly provide lullabys that keep the creature resting in its dreams.   What would happen if it ever woke up? The world may never know.
